| ![]() My 5 yr. old yorkie female, Kylee has been having a terrible problem with her feet. Everytime she goes outside to go to the bathroom, play etc. she comes in and spends several minutes biting at her feet. I spent $350 last month to have her allergy tested and she doesn't seem to be allergic to anything out in the yard. In fact, the only thing that came back high was dust mites and second, mold. Have any of you experienced this? Suggestions?? Also, she seems to be having trouble with horrible dry skin this winter(never before). I can't even give her a bath because it makes her miserable. I use shampoo from vet and she is getting fish oil on her food daily but this doesn't seem to be helping. We are both about to go nuts, help! ![]() Kylee's mom Last edited by mirese; 01-15-2009 at 05:13 AM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Did the vet do a skin scraping for mites? It almost sounds like she may be allergic to grass though - when she's outside, is the on the grass? Allergy tests aren't really reliable, but what's really odd is that only 2 things came back for her - usually the list is about 10 minimum, it seems. In case it's a food allergy - what are you feeding? If she has atopy (environmental), then she is vulnerable to *all* kinds of allergies (like food or whatever) bc the immune system becomes more vulnerable. So, you do want to choose a food that has the least known canine allergens. Also, it's good you're giving Fish oil (EPA & DHA), but in the case of atopy - you really want to get the fatty acid called GLA in the system. The only oil I've found that meets the right stuff for me is Ark Naturals Royal Coat, which contains fish oil, borage oil (the GLA), and Vit A/D/E. WELCOME to YT - so glad to have you here! ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() Mites were the first thing I thought of when she said both feet and body. I would ask your vet to do a scraping. Poor baby ![]() |

| ![]() Don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to say awww, poor little thing ![]() ![]() I feel for you struggling to find her some relief. Could you try putting booties on her so that her feet don't touch the grass/ground and see if that helps?

| ![]() Thanks for the suggestions. I will check into the mite scraping. I'm leaning toward her being allergic to the grass although the test didn't show it. They also assured me, based on the test that it wasn't a food allergy. I feed her TD and she loves it, so thank goodness for that. Her treats are hypoallergenic treats formulated for dogs with skin conditions. Her body doesn't seem to bother her except when her skin is dry. If I don't bathe her and get rid of the dry skin she doesn't have much trouble. UGH, if only I could get this figured out!! As far as the test, those were the only two things with numbers in the allergic range everything else was really low, single digits. Quote:

| ![]() What does the mite scraping involve? Cost? Any idea? How would they treat that if that were the case? |

| ![]() I thought about boots but can't seem to find any that fit her. Also, not sure she would walk in them if I did. ![]() Quote:

| ![]() Scraping is them scraping a piece of skin and looking at it under a microscope. I cant remeber exactly how much it was but it wasnt costly. If your dog had mites they would either give an oral med or it would go through Mitoban dips. Chachi had the dips and it cost $250

| ![]() TD is a science diet brand of food, good for teeth and keeping off plaque. She was given this as a puppy from the vet and we have continued for the past five yrs. |
