| Should I try a new food??? Okay, I've ruled out fleas and everything else. My doggies have the itchies. Tila has dry sky, and has some flakes. This about the 3rd time I'm posting about this. I've tried them on Royal Canin puppy 33, they've tried Wellness puppy, they're currently on Natural Balance, and the place that carries NB does not carry the small breed formula. I found a place in the near by city, its a 2 and a half hour drive. They carry pet foods only. They have Natura, Timber wolf Organics, Solid Gold, Natures Variety, Taste of the wild, Addiction pet food, Eagle pack holistic select. And they have Raw, Urban carnivore, Amore' pet food, and Red dog blue kat. Anyone heard of any of these and any suggestions on what to go with? Should I take any of my babies in to get checked? Thanks. Last edited by Roxy 87; 01-01-2009 at 01:29 AM. |

| Just a thought... a few years ago we had the same problem with our dogs and it was in the winter. We were heating with a woodstove. Our vet told us to try adding some humidity to the house. It worked like a charm. After about 4 days the itches went away. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How long have you had her on the NB? It can take up to 12 weeks for some dogs to show results. I feed raw (Natures Variety, Primal, Suzys) and just love it. You could try feeding raw - or you could try Natures Variety Instinct. You may also want to consider adding EFAs to help skin. This one is pretty balanced: Skin & Coat Care Supplements for Dogs & Puppies: Drs. Foster & Smith Premium Plus Skin & Coat Liquid

| Since more than one of them is itchy, it is less likely allergies (although still very possible if they were on RC). I'm sure you've read that it can take 2-3 months for a new to take effect. You can try a prescription diet () if you think it's food or go to one with limited ingredients and do an elimination diet. It could be environmental allergies or dry skin. Since more than one has the itchies, it could be mites. When in doubt, go to the vet. If it is determined to be food allergies, steroids short-term may help them get over this.

| Hi Roxy, My lil Izzy has the itches all the time winter or summer she's only 1 yr old and it has been a battle with her skin. Vet has said it was allergy skin.He turned her over and on her stomach the color was grey not pink like it should be. Ihave tried every kind of shampoo they make nothing seems to help. I even changed her food which has made a difference. She had been on science diet since we got her now we give her beneful in the plastic tubs. She loves them. Its like real meat and you can get it almost anywhere they also have the stewed chicken and smothered chicken. I just pop it in the micro for a few min. and she stands there waiting at the micro till it it bings hehe. So hope this helps.. |

| They've been on NB for about 3 months, Odie isn't so bad with the itches, he doesn't have flakes either. Tila has the flakes and I've tried a new shampoo, its a sensitive skin/allergy formula and it seemed to help. I think I will try a different food anyways and take her in to get checked to see if they can see whats going on. How would one tell if its mites? Are there any signs? Thanks. |

| I don't know if you're already doing this or not, but omega fatty acids (like Grizzly Salmon Oil) can dramatically reduce the inflammitory response in the affected cells (skin in your case) triggered by allergies. In mild cases, the fatty acids can completely resolve all symptoms. Regardless of what food you use, I would put them both on the salmon oil as soon as you can, you should notice a huge difference in their coats and skin fairly quickly. Good luck!
