| need help giining weight hello all! My Rocky is a little over 2 years old and he weighs a little over 5 pounds. He is not a toy or teacup so I'm worried he might be underweight. He eats well and loves treats, so I don't know what I should do. I heard somewhere to give puppy food for the supplements but I'm not sure that will work. Does anyone know what to do to help him gain some wight? Thank you in advance! |

| Out of curiosity, what makes you think he's overweight? The best way to tell is to feel his ribs. You should be able to feel his ribs but there should also be a decent amount of "padding". A 5lb adult Yorkie is very common, as the standard in under 7lbs.

| I feel he is underweight because i can feel all his bones. I feel all is ribs and his pelvic bones. I know it is natural to feel them, but I feel like there is not enough "padding" as you said. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | When you take him for his check-up, you should ask the vet about this. Being slightly undweight, many think is heathier and easier on the joints than being overweight. Adding an extra meal is an easy way to put on weight, or perhaps, you just need to feed a tablespoon or more extra at each meal. By the way, Yorkies are considered a "toy" breed, but there is no such thing as a "teacup".
