my 6 year old male weighed 1.5 lbs at 12 weeks and should be 5lbs full grown but weighs close to 8 lbs. the vet makes comments on his weight every time we go. but he likes his treats and always eats his food. i try to buy low fat treats for him but he does not lose. once he lost 2 onces and i was happy but he put that right back on. i think it just might be the way he is going to be. i guess he is a little chubby. ![]()

My 8 year old yorkie weights 8.5 lbs. He is not fat at all, he is just a big yorkie...I also have a puppy who is only 12 weeks, but I think she is going to top out around 4-5 pounds. It is too early to tell. I will tell you though I feel the ones that are a little bigger tend to have less health issues and you don't have to worry as much about stepping on them. I know tiny ones can be healthy too, but my vet said the ones that weigh a little more are usually healthier. Have fun with your new one!!! How exciting for you. Please yell if you have any questions!

Hi All, We rescued our male from a puppy mill. When we first got him he was severely malnourished, had an intestinal viral infection, and smelled horrible! over the next three months he was near death a few times and lapsed into comas. Sitting in the vets office with him unresponsive deeply affected my better half Mary. We put him in an animal hospital for severe dyhration (among a zillion other things) and they called 6 hours later... Fearing the worst we answered the call and heard this delightful barking in the background... "Come get him, he's ready to come home!" Scrappy came home and has since showed us that he was aptly named. He has an extremely deep attachment to his mommy and follows her everywhere. Scrappy was very tiny and hovered around 3 pounds for quite a while. Then we got our female - Mistletoe. The best thing we could have ever done. We went through a breeder this time and visited. She watched us and got to know us and how the puppies reacted to us... Mary picked up Mistletoe and tears came to her eyes - she was the one! The breeder saw this and knew she had good owners on her hands. Mistletoe was estimated to grow to be around 5 pounds and to be a little larger than our Scrappy which is exactly what we were looking for since we are looking to breed them. Now a year later, Mistletoe is a hair over 5 pounds and Scrappy is up to 3.5 pounds (has to compete for the food now... lol) Both these guys tear around here like crazy and love to rough house.... We had never had small dogs before and can't imagine life without them. Scrappy might be small but has absolutely no fear and is fiercely protective of his mommy and Mistletoe.... He even wanted to take on a HUGE Malamute the size of a bear! tough little guy.... Anyway, around 3 pounds for our male Scrappy and around 5.5 pounds for our female Mistletoe....
