| wellness dog food was sold? I was recently looking at website for a store in my area called pet empawrium. I don't regularlly shop there, but when I have they have always been very helpful. They at one time sold Wellness food. But on the web site they state "but has also been acquired by an acquisitions company well known for being close-mouthed about its businesses and the people behind it. Wellness’ founder has sold all of his shares, and no longer has any ties or obligations to the Wellness brand. In light of this information, Pet Empawrium & Spaw has decided to discontinue Wellness before there are anymore unexpected surprises. " (Pet Empawrium and Spaw - A Canine and Feline Wellness Center - Arvada, Colorado) Has anyone else heard about this? Are those who use wellness concerned? What do you think? jessica |

| WOW!~! I am surprised this has not leaked out! I love their products and I am hoping they do not change anything having to do with formulations. I was kind of suprised to see them at Petco. Now it makes sense! Thanks for the heads up!! |

| Hmm...I contacted Wellness with this information. Hopefully they will clear it up and let us know if there is any truth to it. This could change the food I feed my babies.

No Longer a Member | Catterton Partners, a private equity firm based in Greenwich, Conneticut, USA, has sold its investment in Old Mother Hubbard Inc./Wellness Pet Food Release Date: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 Catterton Partners, a private equity firm based in Greenwich, Conneticut, USA, has sold its investment in Old Mother Hubbard Inc./Wellness Pet Food of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, USA, in a reported US$400 million deal. Various financial publications have reported Berwind Corp., a family-owned investment management company based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia, USA, acquired the company from Catterton and the Scott family, which bought the petfood maker in 1961 and later recapitalized under Catterton. Berwind does not currently plan to respond to requests to confirm the deal. Berwind’s strategy, however, is to pay cash for 100% ownership of its portfolio companies. It implements a buy-and-hold strategy, targeting companies with high gross margins. It has stated in plans to invest US$1 billion over the next three years on platform companies and bolt-on acquisitions. Berwind currently considers Eagle Pack Pet Food of Mishawaka, Indiana, USA, which it acquired last October, as one of its platform companies. Deborah Ellinger, former chief executive officer of Old Mother Hubbard, is no longer with the company. TheDeal.com reported that Catterton had hired Lehman Brothers Inc. to sell Old Mother Hubbard/Wellness last year, but that the auction was scrapped amid petfood recall concerns. Catterton, which reportedly invested US$45 million in the company, maintains an investment in Nature’s Variety of Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Old Mother Hubbard has annual estimated revenues of about US$150 million Catterton sells Wellness Pet Food |

| This is good to know. I was starting to worry. I feed Cookie the Wellness puppy soft food. I would hate to switch her. |

| We fed Annie, DJ and Harley Wellness wet and Hills dry until they died earlier this year (none food related) with no problems. Sometimes, especially in these economical times, things/promises do change, and it can happen to any pet food manufacturing company. We switched to Natural Balance and Merrick when we adopted Zack and Zeke. Merrick may be questionable as they have a rendering plant right next to the wet food manufacturing plant and I noticed a sutble change in how food looked in the can. For now, I am giving Merrick the benefit of the doubt, or until someone in the pet forum world finds out that they are using questionable food making practices. |

| It's kind of upsetting to know about this sale and new acquisition. A lot of times when this happens, the food suddenly becomes mass marketed and the quality goes way down. I really hope that doesn't happen with Wellness as my 3 cats and Molly are all eating Wellness kibbles with some canned food in the evenings as a treat. They are all doing well on it as well as seem to enjoy the food. Especially when I give them some of the canned food. They all come running eagerly awaiting for me to put the food into their bowls. I'd really hate to have to start making a decision as to what food to switch to. I guess I'd have to make a decision over TOTW, Innova, etc. ~sigh~ |
