| 4 year old yorkie with sensitive stomach hi. i have a 4 year old yorkie. when she was a baby, she had what sounded like asthma. my trainer suggested it was a food allergy and switched her to evo which does not have any grain. this corrected the problem immediately. it is a turkey based formula. recently, about every few weeks she gets sick and throws up or has diarrhea....it corrects immediately when i switch her to science diet ID which is for digestion problems and has a turkey and rice base. it was suggested to me that maybe now, the all protein diet is too rich for her. she is also itchy. fecal tests are all clean. does anyone know a good dry food that is turkey and rice based and healthy for a yorkie? she's a teacup about almost 3 pounds. |

| What kind of treats do you give? Is there cat food or anything like that she could be getting into? It is not impossible that she has developed an allergy to Turkey or some other ingredient in the EVO. |

| Maybe California Natural has one...not sure. Evo is very high in fat and could possibly cause problems in Yorkies because they are prone to pancreatitis.

| It looks like Evo also has chicken. Alot of dogs develope allergies to chicken. You could try there duck and turkey. |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I know you are looking for a turkey and rice based food....and I am not sure of a recommendation for that. But my Magic struggled with sensative stomach issues for over two years and we went through many foods including a prescription food......but eventually someone told us to try Natual Balance Sweet Potatoe and Fish and it has been great!! I was told that this food is great for sensative tummies and allergies....and it has helped both of those issues at my house! You might call the company and see about getting a sample. One thing....there is not a "small bites" sweet potatoe & fish, but the pieces are about the size of a dime and very very thin....so they are easy for these little guys to break up. Good luck finding a solution!!

| thanks everybody! ya she doesn't really have any treats and she's not getting into any other food because she's with me all the time and we don't have any other pets. she is not allergic to the turkey because the prescrip she is on now is made with turkey and it's not a problem. yes, i do think she's developed an allergy to something in the evo and i think the high fat content is a problem for sure. i'll def try the natural balance. thanks for the advice! someone else had suggested that brand to me too but i wasn't sure which one to try. thanks! |

| help...she got sick of the natural balance...advice? hi so i tried to give her the natural balance sweet potato and fish. i gave her the wet food about 2 tbsp and she spent all night throwing up. i wonder if the dry food might have been a better move and if i should have transitioned it from the science diet ID food more gradually. it's just that the science diet ID food is not feeling too good for her either but at least she doesn't throw up with it. any advice? any other good tummy/allergy food to recommend? thanks! |

Evo kibble is moderate (I think 22%) but I prefer foods a bit lower if possible. My opinion only because pancreatitis is not fun. A lot of dogs do very well on I/D and may need to stay on it. Whenever switchiing to a new food, it should be done slowly. Evidently NB isn't going to work for her. Have you thought about homecooking? Are you sure it's an allergy and what is it too? The only way to know is to do an elimination diet.

| additional info...i used a different brand actually! i thought i got the sweet potato and fish natural balance but it turns out it was the canned salmon and sweet potato from California Natural...that one is not made for stomach problems but their dry herring and sweet potato is made for stomach problems so i'll try that and if that doesn't work, i'll try the natural balance sweet potato and fish. any other suggestions are welcome! thanks! |

| Make sure and introduce the new food slowly so that her tummy doesn't get even more upset. My mom gives hers Natural Balance Potato and Duck, and he does really well on it.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Sometimes with re-current vomiting...they are vomiting because their stomach is irritated. She's vomiting....because she's been vomiting. Does that make sense? She is also losing a lot of fluid...you really want to encourage her to drink. I'd give her children's pedolite to level her enzymes out. All other causes have been eliminated by your vet correct? There are suppositories you can give that will stop the vomiting. I hope she feels better soon.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Hi, I am wondering how your Yorkie is doing on the natural balance sweet potato and fish since my little one is going through the same disaster for almost a year now. We've done all possible tests, and they all come back normal. We've tried most Science Diet canned foods like I/D, Z/D, and now we're on Royal Canin RP (rabbit and potato), although we have also tried all other canned foods through this brand as well, and nothing works. My poor 3.5 lbs t cup Yorkie, Cleo, is constantly dealing with diarrhea, bloody and stretchy/ mucus-like stool accompanied by occasional vomiting. She lost lots of weight and is very unhappy. I happened to come across this post and wanted to see if there are any updates on how your dog is doing on the natural balance sweet potato and fish since its main protein is salmon (a pretty fatty fish)....any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! |
