| Wet Eyes I have had my dog for a year and a half. Her eyes are constantly watery. The fluid drips all the way down her face. Would this be caused by an allergy? Does anyone else have this problem?

| My puppy does the same thing he is 4 months old on the 27th. I have been wondering the same question hopefully someone has an answer. I asked the vet and he said it could be an allergy to the food he eats which has grain in it. BUT I have tried other foods and he wont eat them...the vet said it was more important for him to eat then to get rid of the watery eyes. |

| Hi, I have tried different foods for another reason and her eyes are still always wet. Of course she gets more gooies [eye boogers] in the corners of her eyes. I use something to remove the stains, but it's an ongoing problem.

| Hi, My 2 year old has the same problem. It seems I'm always washing his face or at least trying to. Earlier this fall we both had a bad week of alergies. He was so miserable. My vet told me for the seasonal attacks to give him childrens benadryl. When he seems to have a bit more of the watery eye I have been giving him a piece of the tablet in the morning and it seems to help with the eyes. I would ask your vet if this might help your little one. |

| Thank you. I will ask the vet. Did your vet tell you your dog has allergies? Calleigh doesn't seem uncomfortable. It's just the runny eyes. I have a hard time washing her face as well.

| By the time I got an appointment with my vet we were both over it so she couldn't tell, but since it didn't seem to be from food she said it most likely was a seasonal type of allergy. I make sure my 9 pounder has had breakfast and then like I said I only give him a small piece of the tablet. He doesn't seem to be as congested as he had been and his eyes were not as wet. And best of all... he's still the happy little guy that lites up my world. |

| Calleigh has this all year long with no other problems. I'm wondering if her eyes are irritated by something in the house? I really am at a loss. I have taken her to the vet so much with different issues, I hate to have to take her to an allergist also. In general I would say vets don't seem to know too much about allergies. It is a specialty after all. I have a friend who is a vet and she doesn't have any answers for me and she's a smart cookie.

food, water, environmental, or genetics. Distilled water is supposed to help with tearing. A limited ingredient dog food (like the ones Natural Balance makes) could help if it's a food issue, but if your dog won't eat it, then that won't help you. Environmental allergens could be the culprit....fragrances, dust, etc... Yorkies are awefully low to the ground, and it would be pretty hard to figure out what it is unless there is one specific place where the eyes seemed worse...and since they seem to be year round, I think it would have less to do with pollen, ragweed, etc... And then, some dogs are just genetically predisposed to tear. You may never figure out why and they may always tear. It's just in their genes! (Doesn't mean you couldn't try to narrow it down, but all else could fail if genes are the problem!)

| watery eyes.... i've used the benedryl also ... but does not really work for the eyes ...mainly scratching .... it cost like 1500 bux here in calif. to have an allergy test on my Maxie .. yikes .... but what i've learned is by keeping the hair timmed away from the eyes regularly helps 98% and the other is "dry eyes" from viseine helps to eliminate the discharge ..hope i cld help ... hagr8d |
