| I need help with dog food ingredients I know sometimes chemicals and ingredients that aren't really good for our pets can be listed under different names so can someone please tell me if either California Natural Lamb and Rice or CN Lamb and Rice puppy foods contain ethoyquin, bha or bht? What about MSG? The info said sometimes MSG is called natural flavorings or smoke flavorings. What about Innova dog food...does it contain any of these ingredients? I need to find a food that does not contain any of these...either that or I need to start homecooking. |

| Natura products do not contain ethoxyquin, BHA, BHT, etc. Innova does or has in the past said "Natural Flavoring" or whatever. There is no way to know what that is but I "think" one of the companies (it might have been them) that uses this term or maybe it was just a general site online said that the natural flavorings are just a mixture of what is already in the food in certain proportions or whatever. It would be worth asking Natura. One thing you do have to be careful with is if the food contains fish. The supplier of the fish could use preservatives like ethoxyquin but since Innova didn't put it in, it isn't an ingredient, so it doesn't have to be listed. I don't think any Innova products contain fish though.

| Yes, it has for a while but I didn't know quite what to do. Now my mind is made up and I will be making the change soon. Molly is pregnant though so I don't want to change anything for her until she's done nursing. I may keep her on puppy food and mix it with home cooked food...which is what I kind of do for her now. I give her puppy food with chicken, green beans and cottage cheese for her dinner...I'll start adding more home cooked in hers as time goes on with her puppies but I can start the others on home cooked now. I'm just a bit nervous about changing too much for her right now. |
