best to go to a board certified dentist even if more expensive for small dogs as they have gum and teeth problems - also soft food gets below the gum line causing more problems than kibble as kibble helps scrape off tartar as i have been reading everything about gum disease since demi has it :( check this out as dr. jean dodds recommends this and did the testing for it and all natural www.HealthyMouth.com |
Chlorhexidine C.E.T. Chews Petite for Small Dogs<br>(30 Chew Treats) Periodontal Disease CET Mini-Toothbrush below is what the dentist recommended for my 3 as this is the best chlorhexedine gel - no alcohol Oral Cleansing Gel by MaxiGuard, 4 oz. at PetsTruly.com |
Well I found that CET chews worked great for my mini poodle and she loved them and it breath smells good. But that was about 1 yr ago. Now I started using Petzlife gel for the last 3 months and the tarter has soften up nicely. So I spent $2 and got me one of those mini teeth picks from Walmart and the girls have let me scrap their teeth. I have gotten off chunks of tarter. My thought was that I would get off as much as possible and then get a dental if I needed to, that way they would not be under so long. ;) |
the dog dentist receptionist said he can do a dental in 30 min once he is in there if no extractions etc --she said it is very fast if not alot of dental work to be done when dealing wtih the specialists. They do the xrays and it is on his laptop next to him as he is doing the cleaning. |

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!! I really appreciate it! I need to get a scaler and start scaling their teeth myself. Still having decided what I'm going to use as far as toothpaste/mouth gel/etc. |
do not scale own teeth as teeth need to be polished and if you scale and scrape enamel tartar will stick more to non-polished teeth |
Chew Bones with knobs on the end My Seri is 3 and the Vet says her teeth are perfect NO tartar. I give her the tiny Milk Bone chew bones. She even steels her puppys bones. Great for their teeth. Cheryl, mom to Seri, Blaze & Toto:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

For the person who's dog is allergic to Milk Bones, I meant the rawhide bones in a Milk Bone brand bag. I got 35 mini rawhide bones with knots on the ends for $9.95 at Wal-Mart. The puppies love them and Seri has really clean teeth at 3 yrs old. |

I got London's teeth cleaned when she was spayed and since then i try to brush every single day, if not every other day. I use dog toothpaste and a baby toothbrush but they are still getting a little dirty. She is a doodie eater and that does not help and when i catch her doing it i immedietly brush her teeth and wash her mouth which she hates but she doesnt learn. Still they are much cleaner than they were before she got them cleaned. They can build tartar up so quickly.. |

They need to be polished afterwards and it is best to just let the vet do it. |
