| I AM SO MAD! (TJ's Teeth) I am so MAD! TJ had his neuter surgery Friday 8/12. I thought we were good with his teeth b/c they had been falling out. BUT I just happened to look in his mouth last night and he has 2 adult teeth coming in next to his bottom fangs ? (sp). I am so mad at myself b/c I kinda forgot to look the day of the surgery and I forgot to have the Vet double check too! I was so warpped up in TJ tummy bothering him that morning that I completely forgot to look! I can't believe how STUPID that was of me... Now I am just praying that they fall out on their own! I don't want him to be put out again! I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T SEE THEM THAT MORNING.... Last edited by TLC; 08-17-2005 at 11:00 AM. Reason: forgot a word... |

| Your vet should have seen them. My vet did an examination right before Chachi and Jewels spay/neuter where he also checked the teeth. He extracted some duing the surgerys.

| He didn't check them while I was in the room. BUT, I am hoping that before surgery they did check and saw nothing at that point to take out! I know in the past when TJ lost his baby teeth, the next day his adult teeth were pretty much all the way out, so I guess to ease my maddness about this whole thing, I will just act as if they came in over night and that even if I double checked his mouth there would have been nothing to extract? I don't know! |

| My vet didn't check and I forgot too, when Sully got neutered. Now I don't know whether or not he needs to have teeth pulled or not? Grr, I really don't know I guess I should ask the vet next time we're in the office. Don't fret about it...I'm sure he'll be ok. Live and learn, right?

| I can so totally relate to how your feeling because the identical thing happened to Teddy. I kicked myself for not being more on top of things and was sure that I would have to now take him and have them extracted. At lunch today I didn't notice the second ones peeking out at me and so I opened his mouth and they were gone. All of the worrying I did was for nothing! I highly recommend lots of tug of war and letting him chew...chew...chew on hard things. Best wishes to you and your little guy!

| If it will make you feel any bettter-my vet said they had to be in a ways before they pull them, because they can be very difficult to get out ( think trauma to the baby) if they are not in most of the way.I had then pulled a month after the neuter.

| Good point Katy. Those teeth probably weren't in enough so it wouldn't have made any difference. I got lucky with Bo. He had shark teeth when he went in to be neutered. You couldn't miss em!

| Your vet should have checked and told you that they usually wait with the neuter or spay to see if there are teeth that can be extracted at the same time. That should be automatic for him, not you. He's the professional here. I would be mad! My vets always brought this to my attention when I had my pups done.

| I am getting Starsky neutered next month and he definetly has 2 rows of teeth. I told them I wanted his baby teeth pulled at the same time. The vet charges 7.00 per tooth. Is that average??

| $7 seems average........ my vet doesnt do teeth extraction EXCEPT during nuetering (and silly me...... it didnt occur to me) so he was left with two canines on teh top (these were the WORST ones to get out....... the bottom canines were the easiest, they came out first) toby lost his two top canines this week (he is 11 months old) |

| Thanks everyone. You do have a good point about the teeth probably not being in all the way... And I so don't want to be mad at the Vet, he is good, so maybe he did look at his mouth before surgery and decided that nothing could be pulled at this time (I hope), and the bottom line is this: He is neutered and he is healthy, I can't go back in time, it's already done, I just will have to take one day at a time and see what happens! THANKS AGAIN! |

| Something similar happened to me but at the time of neutering he did get some teeth pulled but now he has to get all his canines pulled. The vet wanted to see if they would fall out on their own but they're not and they're not loose either. So next month he's got to get them pulled!

| Spca I took my boys on the same day to be neutered at the Golden West Humane Society and I did not even think of the boys teeth at the time (imagine having both your babies under at the same time). However, the vets really impressed me by checking it on their own and calling me for an ok to remove the baby teeth. They also only charged me $3 a tooth. They were super and that is where I take the boys for everything except emergencies (that they do not handle). |
