Hi everyone

Sophie's been gaining a lot of weight and growing! This is great except i got told that she's chubby for a puppy. she's barely three months old and probably about 4 lbs now...she's grown a lot since i got her. she was exactly 2 months old at 2.3 lbs. is it jsut a growth spurt or should we try to limit her food a little? currently im free feeding her and when her bowls empty i jsut refill it. sometimes she'll eat and sometimes she won't so it's not like she devours whatevers in her face..suggestions?

She may just be a big girl. Can you feel her ribs easily? That's generally an easy test...if you can't...hers a bit on the chubby side. Be really sure it's not treat related....in addition to the food...treats have calories too.

Read the portion size of the kibble you're feeding...you could place that exact amount in her bowl and no more each day.

I feel ya on this one! I took Fiona to the vet when she was about 3.5 months old, and she was 9.4 lbs!

the vet thought she was going to be overweight just by looking at her number, but when he examined her, he just said that she is just a bigger yorkie. Basically you want to see the "waist line" and feel the ribs.... I was always told to feed your puppy three times a day- I pretty much feed Fiona twice now and adding in some cheerios and I think she has lost about a pound. I have cut back on treats and using the cheerios. I give her about 1/4 cup at each feeding...try that!?
