| new puppy New to here and am so confused on feeding regimen for a 2 pound 10 week old yorkie. They recommended Royal Canin puppy 33 but couldn't tell me how much cause the age and weight requirement was not on the back of the bag it says to feed Royal Canin mini babydog 30. I called Royal Canin they were confused they put me on hold for 20 min and came back with to feed her Royal canin mini babydog 30 a little less then 1/2 a cup a day (3 meals) Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to feed wet food if possible. I just want to make sure I am not feeding her too much or too little. Thank You |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | At her young age and weight - unless you're home with her, I think I'd free feed her if it were me. She needs to eat probably about every 4 hours or so, at this point - even if it's just a few kibbles. Personally, I'm not a fan of Royal Canin bc it has quite a few fillers and allergens and many folks here have reported very itchy dogs on it - so I'd recommend something else like Wellness, Natures Variety, Taste of the Wild, Orijen. As for the wet food - I'd also highly recommend feeding some canned - it is much less processed than dry food (fresher, that is) and it adds moisture to the diet.

| I would free feed kibble all day, and if you are concerned he/she is not eating enough or eating the dry very well you can give her some canned 2-3 times a day. We like the Wellness Brand of dog food, but there are lots of good ones out there.

| hmm You really should stick with the RC for at least a couple weeks to keep your kid from getting an upset stomache, at this age upset stomaches suck. Id crush up the kibble and allow her to eat 4 times a day. I have never been a fan of free feeding but its all up to you. once she hits 12-14 weeks you can slowly start to move her over to a new food such as a grain free food...you will slowly mix this in over a week until she is eating 100% new food. If you want to spoil her you can boil some chicken and rice or potato for one of her meals in the day. And always always have water available. you can always ask for suggestions on what is best to feed but remember it is all about your personal situation. If you can afford orijen at 30bucks a bag then go for it but petco has a few decent foods that your girl will do fine on. Petco has...dog wisperer food, Solid Gold barking at the moon, Halo, Natural Balance. All good foods and close to most larger towns. Grain Free you may need to order...Orijen, EVO, Taste of the wild. Organic....Organix, newmans own, Natural Balance organic As you can see the list could go on but those are some that i have personally tried. |
