| Garlic??? My husband surprised my dogs and ME with homemade birthday treats. A recipe that he found online! It was full of garlic? Is this okay? I have read mixed reviews about garlic and yorkies and now I am worried!!!! They are both acting okay?!?!?! HELP!

| Giving it on occasion probably won't do any harm but here is a post I wrote the other day: Whether garlic should be given to dogs will probably be debated forever. I do not give it and don't recommend giving it. Members of the allium (onion, garlic, leek, chives) family can permanently denature hemogloblin because they are toxic to red blood cells. Feeding a small amount of garlic occasionally isn't really going to do anything but feeding a large amount one time or a small amound over a long period of time could create a problem. Most dogs will probably do fine but asthmatic attacks, dermatitis and anemia have been reported in relation to animals consuming garlic. If I had to feed Ellie garlic, I would have her RBCs checked often but there is no reason, in my opinion, to take the chance anyway. You can learn about this at petdiets.com. You can search in the FAQ for this info. There is also an article about it on there but it is not free. __________________

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Giving garlic in small amounts is safe, and many people even recommend it. The amount necessary to do any harm would be a whole bottle of garlic powder. It's found in many dog treats, and foods.
