Update on Zoe.... Sorry it's been a while--- just wanted to give you all an update- the spay went well :). Zoe spent the night at the vet's (they have 24 hr care) and she was a little out of it when we picked her up. She didnt need an e-collar but she had some pain meds. By the 2nd day she was back to herself and I had to keep her from being so active. They pulled some teeth while she was under and the total cost was a little over $300. My biggest issue with the spay was having to wait 2 weeks before grooming- :D LOL!!!! She's doing great now- thanks you all again for your advice and sharing your experiences . |
Glad that Zoe is doing well.:) |
:) Yea! Another one behind us. Cassidy did well, too. She wasn't so eager to get back to running around. She jumped down off the couch before my husband could catch her the day after and she yelped. The second day she ran to the door to greet someone and cried the whole way. From that time on, she slowed right down and wanted to be held. :D I don't get much of that behavior. These Yorkies are so independent sometimes. It took over a week and a half till she was really back. |
Happy to see everyone else is doing fine after their little one's spay. My little girl was done on Thursday. Before I went to pick her up, they said she was jumping around like nothing had even happened. They couldn't believe how much more excited she was when she saw me. LOL Can someone please explain the "onesie". Is this a special thing or just a baby onesie? My apologies for the stupidity of the question, but Bella is having a very hard time with the cone/e-collar and will not leave the incision alone when I take it off. :( |
I didn't use a onesie but Cassidy started to lick at her incision and I cut a foot or so from an ace bandage and wrapped it not too snug around her middle. I folded a tissue and used it to line the bandage so it wasn't touching her wound. She left it alone after that. :) |

Thank you for your response. After thinking on the ace bandage for a while, I took a strip of scrap fleece and added some velcro to do the same thing. It works incredibly well! |
Nervous about Tia-Maria getting spayed I am so glad i found this thread! My female yorkie Tia-Maria is due to be spayed and have 3 of her remaining baby teeth removed. I am very nervous about it and really don't know what to expect as i've never had a female dog before. But i have been reading through everyone elses experiences so i feel much better prepared now, thanks everyone for all the great advice :):animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
:):):) It will be fine. I've been through it twice and it's never as easy on us as it seems to be on them. I've heard that they don't have the same sensation of pain that we do. It's obvious that it is true because if any human had a full "spay" we wouldn't be running and jumping within a day or two! It will be a long day and night but you and she will be just fine. ;) |
I take Bella to be spayed tomorrow at 8am.. and she'll get her hernia fixed.. say a prayer everything goes ok. :hands: |
:big_hug: Poor baby, and you, too! Lots of prayers and love!!! Make sure to post an update. :getwell: |
I dropped her off. Bella----> :( Everytime I take her somewhere and leave her, like vet and groomer. I think she thinks, she's back at the pound and I abandoned her. :( They are suppose to call around 10 or so to let me know how it's going. |
It's after 5 pm here, she must be done by now and I hope it all went well. :) |
Tia-Maria being spayed on Tuesday... Hope everything went well. I have booked Tia-Maria in to be spayed on Tuesday morning at 11am. Went to see the vet today and he said am i sure i want to do this because she is a good pedigree and would be good for breeding. This made me hesitate but i have decided to go through with it. Although it's a nice thought to imagine her having puppies i wouldn't be able to give them away! I am hoping everything goes smoothly on Tuesday, i'll keep u updated :aimeeyork |
My Sophia was spayed and microchipped yesterday, it cost $330. She was pretty tired all night. She laid on my stomach and slept all evening. This morning she is sitting on my lap. She has eaten and had water. She is usually so energetic, so this is so different for her. She has pain meds which I have been giving. The vet put her in a water resistent onesie type thing. It velcros above her back and is cut out around her bottom so she can go to the bathroom and leave it on. Great idea!! The vet tech said they have found this is the best way to keep them from licking. |
I just scheduled Zoë's spay for the first week of November. I'm already feeling guilty and it hasn't happened yet! She'll be a week shy of 6 months when she gets spayed. She's big enough (just over 3.5 pounds) and the vet thought it was a good time. It's a little bit sooner than I'd like but I want her to be healed and happy enough to travel with us for Thanksgiving. I just don't want to make a mistake and her go in to heat before I get her spayed. The vet even joked that with all her knowledge and experience she had a Golden Retriever that went in to heat at 5 months old! I guess better safe than sorry. Zoë hasn't lost any baby teeth yet, nor has she had any double sets either. I know getting teeth pulled is common but is it common for their teeth to have not come in by then too? |
