| paw chewing Chip is chewing on his paw and won't stop... why? We're still working on getting all the fleas out of the house, but we've restricted their area to our room where there are no fleas. We've checked him all over too and we haven't found any. Maybe it's just allergies?

| Could be grass allergies. You could try to put some hydrocortisone spray on it if you had a lil sock to put on his foot to give it some relief - if he would leave the sock on! Muffin used to have grass allergies.

| He's been eating Nature's Recipe, but he's been on that since he was a baby.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Have you checked his nails? Maybe one is irritating him. Also some people say this happens when a dog uses a stainless steal bowl because after a while nickel leaches out. Is there corn in his food?

| There isn't any corn, but we do have a stainless steel bowl set. He also just got his nails trimmed... maybe one was cut a little too short?

As far as the bowls go, I read two threads on Yorkietalk about this and also several other sites, stainless has nickel in it and nickel is an extreme allergen. As the bowls are washed more and more, nickel leaches out, why this just affects the paws is not clear. Someone suggested the dog put his paw in the water or played with the bowl. They did say changing bowls helped, but I don't know for sure. I just thought I would mention this, but the dog is chewing for a reason, and I would take him to the vet and see what he thought. It could have been an old flea bite that got infected or now has become a habit, but chewing on it can cause long term problems.

| Baby too!!!!!!!! She's never done this before. Her food hasn't changed, so I haven't a clue. She gnaws and gnaws and gnaws! I'm afraid she's going to start bleeding. I've chalked it up to seasonal allergies, but when I go to the vet I'm going to tell him.
