| Vaccination Question I took Mufasa to the vet yesterday for his first visit. He got a rabies shot and the necessary shots (I said NO to the Lepto, Corona). I asked the vet tech when I need to bring Mufasa back to have his 2nd round of shots and she said he is done for a year. ????? I'm confused.........I thought they had to have shots every 3 weeks until they were a certain age. |

| How old is your pup? If a vaccine is given after the immune system is fully mature (about 6 months), you only HAVE to give one or 2 sets. Since maternal antibodies are interfering and the immune system isn't mature, you need to give between 2 and 4 sets (usually 3). The most common schedule is probably 8, 12 and 16 weeks but different vets have different schedules. Starting before 8 or 9 weeks is really not a good idea. Rabies should be given at late as possible. If your pup really only did get one round of DHPP, I think I'd find a new vet or ask for a looooooooooong explanation...
