| Best food for smaller yorkies I have a yorkie that will be 1yrs old next month. I am feeding her Eukanuba, which she has been on since she was a baby. I have been reading about the all natural good. I would love to feed her healthie foods. My question is what brand would be good for her? She is 2.5 lbs. Should I mix in the new food and gradually give her less of the Eukanuba or what? I am planning on going to Pet Supply this weekend to shop for her some new food since she will be an adult next month. I think this is a good time to change her food. I also give her these breakfast treats in the morning. She gobbles that down very quick. I would love to give her all natural everything including treats. FYI this is my first dog so I wont her to have the best just like her mommy |

| I prefer Canidae All Stages of Life. Natural Balance has just come out with a small kibble and Solid Gold has a small kibble too. You would introduce her to the new food slowly over a one week period. For treats I give my the Natural Balance Lamb and Rice dog food roll, cut in little bite size pieces. Mine are crazy about that. Also they get a few cherrios every day and when I have steamed broccolli, squash or green beans they get a few bites of that. Best of luck with your baby. |

| Hi I feed both of my babies Wellness Venison and sweet potato wet food and also wellness kibble...but not mixed together. I also allow them fresh peas, carrots, cheerios, no salt added cottage cheese and green beans as occasional snacks.

| Thanks for the advice on the food. I will go to the Pet Supply store and try the Candiae brand. I didn't know I could feed her cereal. I have given her carrots before. I wil also try green beans and peas. |

| Wellness, Canidae, Innova, California Natural, Solid Gold and Natural Balance are all great foods. Most you'll have to go to a feed store or a specialty store to find but Petco carries Solid Gold and Natural Balance. Nature's Variety also makes high quality kibble in addition to raw. As far as the transition goes, I would introduce it VERY slowly..maybe over two weeks? Start out by adding 25% new food to 75% old food. Then after 3-4 days add 50% new food.. then after 3-4 more days add 75% new food. Keep going until you're at 100% new food!

| My vet reccomended Innova EVO (chicken and turkey). She said she did not support Solid Gold because they were "rude" to her on the phone when she asked them some questions. She is also a dog owner & shows them (Port. Water Dogs). That was good enough for me.

| I was in the same boat. My pup was on Eukanuba small breed puppy food. She liked it but I wanted to switch to something better. I plan on using Wellness. I am switching my dachshund to it too.

| I feed my 14 week old Natural Balance and she loves it. We are still in the switching period from changing her food and she will pick out the new food first and then eat the rest. She gets so happy so I'm very happy with Natural Balance |

| there are a ton of great-all natural foods.. as you can see from everyones responses! we used to have Avery on Canidae(its a great food..but she wouldn't eat it sometimes. i have heard others have this problem, as well) so we stopped feeding this. We have her on Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul.. and she loves it! its all natural and we like it alot! alot of places will send you samples.. if you email them. i know chicken soup will, natural balance, and a few others.. You may want to try out a food and see how she does-since you said she was so little, you want to make sure she eats!) good luck! (also.. when we switched Avery's food-we started mixing her old and new food together and then started taking away the old! -just to make sure her tummy wasn't upset! not sure if you need to do this.. but we did!)

| Also.. here is a link that shows many of the foods and how they rank(plus a little more info on them) you want to choose a 5 star food (i think the 6star, people said, was not ideal for yorkies-i forget why-sorry!) But check it out!
