| Abbey Lee has some baaaad breath! I have never had issues with Abbey's breath smelling but lately-like the last 5 days- it has been TERRIBLE. I can smell it from a mile away and when she yawns it's just so bad. The smell is weird too. She recently lost some baby teeth, can this have anything to do with it?? Do I need to brush her teeth daily...or what is recommended? And what toothpaste and brush type does everyone use?? Any other suggestions to control bad breath would be helpful...I'm dyiiiing. ...I miss those sweet non smelly kisses...now I just have to plug my nose.

| It sounds like she might have an infection. You might want to take her to the vet. She might need a tooth pulled and antibiotics. I use Petzlife Gel to brush my dogs' teeth. I have tried those bones for fresher breath but I don't think any of those work. I think good dental hygiene is really the only thing you can do for fresh breath. Hopefully she just needs meds, infection can smell really bad!

Is it recommended to get her to a vet immediately? She has an appointment next week bc she is getting spayed...should I take her in sooner?

| While she's losing her baby teeth the breath can be simply rancid. The upside is that it won't last forever. Once the baby teeth are all gone her breath should improve. Depending on her age you may want to consider taking her into the vet and letting him remove the remaining baby teeth. Tooth paste for dogs is best to use, you can get it in flavors she will like and use a soft baby tooth brush. You can also get a brush that will slip over your finger. If you're feeding a moist food you may want to consider a dry kibble, at least until all of the baby teeth have worked themselves out. Premium diet and regular dental care are two of the most important things you can do to keep your little one healthy and happy. |
