| Estimate on Neuter So i made an appointment for Pasquale's neuter the other day and asked if they would send me an estimate for what it would be...i just wanted a ballpark area. Well the total is $488.73. They added all these injections that i DO NOt want him to get. Lepto, Lyme. They also added in Microchipping....ahem...my dog is ALREADY microchipped...do they even look at his chart? GOOD LAWD! They want to give him Vetprofen...which i'm assuming thats doggie ibuprofen? And they want to give him Rimadyl....now i have heard nothing but bad things about Rimadyl. Is there another pain med they can give him? The neuter alone is 170.90....its all the other stuff they add on....ugh...Do you think i should go to another vet?

| I personally wouldn't do any vaccines that day. His body will be going through enough. Rimadyl is sometimes the best choice. All NSAIDS carry some risk, especially if there are preexisting liver or kidney problems. If you trust your vet, try not to worry about it. There are alternatives to NSAIDs that you could use if you'd be more comfortable but they may not manage pain quite so well. Does that include preop blood work and an IV?

| Im not sure..i'll have to call them and find out...it doesnt say it anywhere on the estimate. I'm definitely not allowing him to have anything done to him that day besides the neuter. I'm surprised they even suggested that.

I guess it depends on how much you want to pay for the surgery but $350-$400 really isn't out of the question if that includes preop blood work and all of the monitoring extras.

| Yes...he needs some baby teeth pulled. They only accounted for 1..which is 45$ each. But he definitely needs two bottom canine teeth pulled. I just HOPE that includes the preop blood work...but i have a feeling it doesnt.

| I just had Maximus neutered Monday. He already had his required shots prior to this. I opted out of the pre-op bloodwork and the microchip, but he was required to have a heart monitor due to his weight (they require one for all dogs under 6 lbs) and I paid $101.06.

My furkids Donating Member | I just had my 2 girls done at the same time. I know that spays cost more than neutering. My vet gave a 10% discount if they were booked between certain dates. I paid 835.00 for both of them plus 175.00 for them to both have pre-op blood work done. I felt better having that done...just to make sure they were well enough to go through surgery. I did not have them micro chipped. I did have all the other options though. I even had their teeth cleaned at the same time..and....Sadie had to have a tooth pulled...not a baby tooth either. Yorkies can tend to have teeth problems. The pain meds they were on were, Buprinex and Metacam. They were in a little syringe so it was easy to give to them. They also had an antibiotic to take as well. It's not cheap to have animals spayed or neutered today but, it's better for them in the long run....I just wish I hadn't waited so long to have it done. I was very nervous to have them go under anesthesia. My vet uses sevoflorine, which is used in geriatric "human" patients...It's a very gentle anesthesia...and.....I trust my vet. Good luck with your little guy.
