| could be wacky??!! This is a little out there and maybe a little too Californian, but ever since Latte had allergy problems, the vet recommended a fish and sweet potato diet. I buy frozen whiting or catfish (it's pretty cheap) and cook it for Latte. I microwave fresh yams and cut these up and put them on her plate. I sprinkle some cheese on her fish and she goes to town. She also likes canned tuna (albacore, of course!) I only feed her this once a day. Her treats are corn and wheat free. I think her allergies are mostly environmental, but I try to give her very little corn, wheat or chicken. During this time of year, with the wind blowing and lots of pollen, she takes a quarter tablet of a cortisone every other day. There's very little scratching and only a little paw licking. (And truthfully, she only licks her paws right before she goes to sleep.) Oh, one more thing, she gets Rice Krispies for treats and sometimes she has them for breakfast! (She used to like Honey Nut Cheerios, but now she's into Rice Krispies.) This may all sound a little wacky, but it works for us, and she's the most darling dog. |

| Raw? I Must Be Really Dumb Because I Dont Understand What You Mean When You Say Feed Raw. Do You Mean Raw Meat? I Also Have My Yorkie On Canidae And She Was Eating It And Its Like Shes Holding Out For The Good Stuff. I Am So Guilty Of Giving Her Bits Of My Food. I Would Break Off Pcs Of White Chicken And Give It To Her Or Carrots, Stuff Like That. I Dont Give Her Things That Are Bad For Her But Now She Wants Only My Food. She Will Eat Her Kibble If I Hand Feed Her. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I don't think you're a horrible Mommy at all, you're trying to do what's best for your lil one but he or she simply isn't having that, it isn't your fault. If your pup isn't eating and the only thing you can get it to eat is the SD, then feed it to him or her, if not, he or she could end up sick and possibly get hypoglycemic and no one wants that. Maybe eventually you'll be able to change the food, but right now, if they are not eating anything else, then by all means, give the SD. It's not a food I approve of but if I were in your situation and Maggy wouldn't eat anything but SD, you can bet your butt I'd give it to her to keep her alive. I have a boxer I have to feed PURINA and I KNOW that's not a good dog food either, but he has reacted so very badly to all other foods that when I found he would and could tolerate the Purina Dog Chow, I let him have it. I'm talkin he passed blood, got sick, lost weight, broke out in hives! I tried holistic dog foods, all kinds of dog foods, I even made his meals (BARF DIET) but that didn't last long either. Sometimes what we have planned for them doesn't always work and it's not your fault. You do what you have to do to keep your lil one eating and hopefully in time you can switch to a better food, if not, then at least your lil one won't starve and die!

| Thank you all so very much for all of the great advice. I am still trying to trick her into eating a better food. Maybe as she gets older she will like something other than SD. As long as she continues to eat I will be happy. Thanks again. |

| The people I got my girl from said feed SD small bites, so I did for along time. Then I tried more healthy foods for her & by trail & error, she is now eating Timberwolf & loves it. I feed one flavor consistently as her main food & another flavor as a small side dish for variety. This have been a work in progress over 4 years, Now she's a happy puppy!!

| I would be greatly concerned if your puppy isn't eating. I cook for mine and it isn't expensive at all I take a whole chicken and boil it or bake. I boil a sweet potato skin and all until soft. I cut the chicken up mix in the sweet potato and than I add a can of green beans. That is their main meal of the day so if you give them a dry that isn't the best in the world they are only snacking on it. I personally don't like SD and my dogs give me a fit with organic dry food so I use Purina Pro Plan which is not on the list of the best foods but I give my dogs vitamins and their home cooked meals and I have pretty much wiped out any problems I was having with eclampsia |
