Difference in Stool Today one of my pups (not sure which little guy it was) had a clear or maybe yellowish almost gel looking substance come out with his stool. They have both been on antobiotics for coxhydiah (spelling?) and one of them has a cough. They have been on it for almost 2 full weeks. Yesterday I wasnt able to give it to them because I left their med at the sitters house. I really feel like the vet that has been seeing them maybe just has not really been giving them the right attention and he has not been giving us the right meds to clear these problems up. With todays stool I feel like things may be getting worse and maybe I should just go to a new vet. Any ideas out there? Oh yeah BTW the vet they currently see has already seen them twice. First time was for a standard check up and to check the cough for the one. He also performed a fecal exam. Well he gave us a antibiotic that he wound up one week later taking him off of and then putting them both on this new antibiotic due to the coxhydiah (spelling?)

| well, it does sound like coccidia... Kash had it when i got him and he was straining to poop and all that would come out was a clear/yellow gel like substance. i got him tested, and then got medication (a yellow liquid), gave it to him for 10 days, and he was back to normal. your pup could have something else if the meds aren't working... or maybe he needs a stronger dose? i dunno, but it sounded like coccidia.

The thing that bothers me is they have been given two different Antobiotics already. This is the first time i have seen this problem with their stool. I always check visually before tossing. So its been almost 2 weeks on this new antibiotic and now I get this... seems wierd to me

For coccidia he needs to be on albon. Is that what the vet gave you for him? Usually the albon will start working right away and firm up the stools. If the stools have been normal and then just one instance of icky stools then it could be something he ate.

He has been normal with stool up till now. They both have been eating the same thing since day 1. Nutro Puppy Dry Food. Occational Baby food (chicken and gravey) nutro puppy drumsticks for treats or nutro carrot treats. I did miss thier meds yesterday due to not having them with me so maybe that was it.

What I have found out about puppies is they will eat anything if given a chance. They can eat the stuffing out of a toy, chew on a little piece of plastic, a cord, a piece of wood, just anything they can get hold of and if they swallow just a tiny piece of something they should'nt then that is enough to irritate the intestinal lining and cause icky poops. I am sure they will be fine. Just keep an eye on them and if the icky poops do not clear up soon then I recommend taking them back to the vets. Best of luck.

I will... I am actually more worried about the cough that one of them has more than anything though. He seems to be fine durring the day. If he coughs at all it is small and only a couple times but then when it is sleep time he coughs all night long. I has not gotten any better.

Did the vet say what was causing the cough? Is it kennel cough or something else?

He said it seemed like Kennel cough also maybe stress but I think I may just get a second opinion because he doesnt seem to care much about his job he just was in and out and was very short with answers and seemed to do the exam very quickly

Did he get the cough after he got the bordella shot? If it is kennel cough then it takes 3 or 4 weeks to get over it.

Um He has had one round of shot which was done prior to him being sent to us. He was sent from Texas to California. He got the cough about a week after we got him which was April 18th. So this is going on his 4th week on antobiotics. Like I said its only really bad at night.

They can get kennel cough from the vaccination so that might be what happened. I am sure he will be better soon.
