| I could really use some help here!!!!!!!!! Ok...I am really looking for some help. Maggie eats all of her food in about 15 seconds. well, I haven't timed it but I'm pretty sure it isn't much longer than that. She inhales it. Doesn't even chew it!!!!!! I have seen those bowls that slow the eating process down...but other than that, does anyone have any advice what to do about this???? the kicker is that she eats SO fast and then she acts like she is still starving. She is getting plenty to eat..in fact, she is overweight! she makes you feel so sorry for her because she literally acts starving. but I know she isn't. I give her carrots for treats...she gets an OCCASIONAL (maybe once a week) yorkie yummy treat but really, the only treats she gets are carrots. So I know she isn't overweight because of too many treats. I just dont know what to do...I wish I could get her to slow down when she eats because I keep thinking that she will feel full if she eats slower. But even with me only putting 2 or 3 kibbles in her bowl at a time...she is still inhaling. any ideas for me??????

| Hi Mandee, One thing that I just read and have since watched Winston inhale since then, is if there is more than one dog in the room, they have concluded that dogs will eat more/fast. I think they studied this for ones that were not eating...trying to get them to eat more. Winston is pretty laid back usually eating by himself, but if Pokey and Packer are with him...it's like trying to save up as much as he can for himself....Feast or Famine I guess...I don't know if your girls eat together or not or if this will even help, but just wanted to share!!

| If I feed Milo out of a bowl he only eats one piece at a time, whereas my sisters dog when fed out of a bowl inhales her food, so we both started using the amaze-a-ball, to feed you can get them at petco and I think JBwholesale. The Theory is they have to work for there food by moving the ball you put the whole meal inside, low and behold daphne my sisters dog slowed down in eating, and Mr. Milo sped up. Who Knew |

| Punkin inhales her food. She just loves to eat. I sometimes put it down in increments. When she is done eating there is always a huge burp and a grin on her face |

| Mandee -- Find a nice round stone and clean it up real good. Put her kibble in the bowl and then put the stone on top. Be sure the stone is "just the right size" meaning one that she will have to nose around to get to the kibble but not so big that she can't move it. |

| No answers to help you with this one. Winston gobbles his food down pretty fast as well. He's an only dog, so there's no fear of another taking his away. He just simply loves to eat...and he licks his dish clean too!!! But he doesn't act like he's starving, he's happy with what he gets then goes and lays down while we finish our meal. I'm pretty sure his tummy is content...

| You can also buy food for larger breed ... That should slow him down because of the extra chewing needed. ; |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I've heard that training them to be submissive before eating helps. You make them sit while you are preparing their bowl. After you place the bowl on the floor they can't eat until you give the release command. If they start for the bowl before you say ok, you pick up the bowl, and say, "sit." Do this until they obey. Green beans are a better diet food than carrots. Carrots actually have a great deal of sugar and if your familiar with the glycemic index, aren't really recommended because they can increase the appetite. Green beans on the other hand will help curb the appetite and make you feel full. The vet recommended replacing some of Joey's food with green beans; and now, he is finally at a healthy weight. Here's some information on the glycemic index: The Glycemic Index

| When I brought Madison home, I was horrified at how fast he inhaled his food...I fed he and Max at the end of the kitchen island on with the big water bowl in the middle and each of their food bowls on either side of it. I thought that was good enough. But Madison just would INHALE his food (and before that, I thought Max inhaled his food, but this dog REALLY did!), and make sounds like a wild animal. I thought it was maybe b/c he'd been out on his own having to find food anywhere he could and needed to fight off (or at least intimidate) other animals looking for food too.....but duhhhhhh.....did I think about separating the dogs while they were eating???? NOOOOOO. My girlfriend told me that I needed to feed them in different areas and so now I feed one at one end of the island and the other on the opposite end ....it's suprising how much Madison has slowed down his eating..he still kind of inhales it at the end, but at least he's slowed down so he's not hacking and regurgitating his food immediately after eating it! I was trying to think of what I could put into his food dish to slow him down (was thinking about golf balls since that's what we've got), but so far, I think just feeding them away from each other is doing the job. That doesn't mean however, that as soon as one walks away from his bowl that the other one isn't right there to lick up any remnants they might accidentally missed. Crazy dogs.

| Hi Mandee, I have the same problem with Emma. I might try feeding them in different areas-but she's always done this, since we started feeding her on a schedule. The ball like someone mentioned might help- we have one from PetCo called a Buster Cube. I have also heard that scattering their food on the floor might help-they have to walk around to get each piece, and that slows them down. This is much harder with two dogs-maybe start feeding them either at separate times, or one in another area or in a pen?
