When I brought Madison home, I was horrified at how fast he inhaled his food...I fed he and Max at the end of the kitchen island on with the big water bowl in the middle and each of their food bowls on either side of it. I thought that was good enough. But Madison just would INHALE his food (and before that, I thought Max inhaled his food, but this dog REALLY did!), and make sounds like a wild animal. I thought it was maybe b/c he'd been out on his own having to find food anywhere he could and needed to fight off (or at least intimidate) other animals looking for food too.....but duhhhhhh.....did I think about separating the dogs while they were eating???? NOOOOOO. My girlfriend told me that I needed to feed them in different areas and so now I feed one at one end of the island and the other on the opposite end ....it's suprising how much Madison has slowed down his eating..he still kind of inhales it at the end, but at least he's slowed down so he's not hacking and regurgitating his food immediately after eating it! I was trying to think of what I could put into his food dish to slow him down (was thinking about golf balls since that's what we've got), but so far, I think just feeding them away from each other is doing the job.
That doesn't mean however, that as soon as one walks away from his bowl that the other one isn't right there to lick up any remnants they might accidentally missed. Crazy dogs.
