| Concerned about Pia : ( Hi everyone, I'm not sure if anyone can help with this or not. Pia really needs her teeth cleaned very bad. To be honest she probably should have had them done a year ago. I know we all worry about our babies being put under, but my situation is a little differen't with Pia. We almost lost her the last time she was put under when being spayed and having the baby teeth removed. Saying I'm terrified doesn't seem to sum up how I feel about having her put under again. I actually said I would never ever put her under again unless it was an absolute must. Unfortunately, Pia was not blessed with the greatest teeth. Her teeth seem to get dirty very fast. I brush and it doesn't seem to help much at all. She isn't a big time chewer. I've bought so many differen't things and she might chew for a few minutes and then she has no more interest. I bought several of those natural bones everyone was talking about, but they are too big for her mouth. I just don't know what to do. I'm so scared and if something happened to her I know I would blame myself. I can't even picture my life without her. My stomach aches just worrying about this every single day. I'm so confused and I have no idea what to do. I'm terrified that her teeth are going to get even worse and she could get some type of dental disease. Then that could cause even more issues for her. To top it off I just found out that my vet moved pretty much across the country and a new vet is now there. I've gone to so many vets around here and I know I'm picky but I don't care. I almost lost Pia because I put too much faith into a vet and I'll never do it again. I have to be picky, these are my babies. Now I pretty much have no vet, her teeth need cleaned so bad and I don't know what to do. Would you guys even take the risk? She will obviously have all the pre-blood work done before being put under, but is there anything else I can do? When she was put under before they used Isoflurane. I always thought this was the best to use. The vet that did the spay never mentioned another option. This particular vet also almost killed my baby girl for being so careless. When Pia becaem ill and was taken to the ER this is where I met the vet we've been seeing for the past couple years. She was on call that night and was an absolute miracle worker. She saved Pia and we obviously started to go to her office for all the babies needs. Now she's gone and I just don't know what to do. Here is where I'm stumped and I'm clueless on how I can find out. She mentioned something that would be better than Isoflurance to use on a dog Pia's size. On a good day Pia weighs 2 lbs. She said many offices don't even use this particular thing, but they did and she said if Pia ever needed to be put under again, they would definately use this. I really need the name of whatever this is. If anyone works at a vet's office could you please ask the doctor about this. I'm so desperate and I definately want to make sure the very best is used on her. Also, I live in Hagerstown MD. If anyone knows of a good vet could you please let me know. At this point, I swear I will fly Pia wherever the safest place is. I know its just a dental and some probably think I'm nuts, but I can't help it and I'd do anything in the world to make sure she is under the best care possible. I know this is is super long and I appreciate anyone that reads this. Thank you all so much for listening. I know I sound crazy right now, but I'm just very nervous about this. Thanks again!! Hugs, Dina

| I certainly understand your concerns. How old is Pia and how much does she weigh? I just had my 12 year old Dixie's teeth cleaned. She had to have some teeth pulled. Dixie weighs close to 6 lbs and she did very well. Just take your time and find a good vet. Ask questions and let them know your concerns and be sure to tell them what happened to her when she was spayed. I wish you and Pia all the best. |

| Dina, I am truly sorry to hear about this and I totally understand how you feel. I am keeping you and Pia in my prayers and I'll do a little homework to see if there's anything I might be able to help you with. Praying for my baby Pia

Hi, I'm glad your Dixie did so well. Pia is a tad over 3 years old and weighs 2 lbs. I'm just so nervous and really confused. I want to do what is best for her and dealing with a new vet scares me even more.

| Aww Dina I'm so sorry that you're worried. I hope that you can find a solution for Pia's teeth. Maybe you could talk with one of the prey model raw experts here and they can help you find some bones that will really interest Pia and get her teeth clean?

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Oh baby Pia...we will be thinking about you and your mommy. Dena I have the same problem with Izzy and boy little Pia is only 2# and Izzy is not even 3# and her teeth are starting to show some tartar. Izzy, too, is not a big chewer and what's out there to chew is not safe so we are at witts end trying to figure out what to give her to chew with her little mouth. I'll be watching this post for all the good advice.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Gosh Dina, I didn't know she was so tiny! Wow. I'd be a nervouse wreck too. I know what you mean though, my Zoey went into cardiac arrest and they actually lost her on the table and revived her during an emergency c section and now2 years later I still have not gotten her spayed. How can I? So I know how you feel. Can you try petzlife and see if that will work? If it were me (well this is what I've been doing) I'd probably hold off, keep brishing her teeth and find something she might be interested in chewing. I totally understand girl! Hugs to you!!! |

| Dina, I know how you feel. My Lucky is much bigger than Pia, he weighs 11 lbs and the last vet visit, he suggested we have Lucky's teeth cleaned. I'm like you, VERY scared to have him put under. The only suggestion I have is I recently bought PetzLife, Oral Care for dogs. Mine is a spray that is supposted to keep their teeth white and healthy. I found this out from Archie on here. She uses it on Buddy and his teeth look great. Good Luck in deciding what to do. It's a hard decision.

Thanks so much girl. I'm just so scared for her. I swear I feel like I have an ulcer in my belly. I worry over any of my babies but almost losing her has made this even worse. I just hope and pray everything works out.

| Oh Dina - you poor thing!!! I can't imagine having to make this decision. I think I would try increasing brushing and try using some of the products out there that help, like PetzLife first. I "brush" with a piece of gauze wrapped around my finger. It is much more effective for us as the girls don't fight my giner like they did the brush and I can make sure I get to all the teeth. We still use PetzLife a few times a week as well, particularly on the back teeth. I hope you can find something that will help and avoid the anesthesia altogether. Sending positive thoughts and hugs!!!!!

Donating YT 11K Club Member | oohhhh Dina I'm so sorry! I have the same concerns as you. I am going to get London spayed, teeth pulled and cleaned, her teeth are so horrible! I heard petzlife is good, I am going to try that and also I just bought some raw bones for them to chew, hopefully that will help some. London is chewing on it right now, they are the small ones, and are beef bones. They even have some meat on them so that is what interests her in chewing them, do you have a natural pet place around you that sells this type of stuff? They keep them frozen. If you do find out the name of the anestesia that the last vet suggested can you please let me know what it's called? I'm scared to death about London going under as well. She is so sensitive. Can you get in contact with the vet and ask her? Maybe they have her phone number..
