do i need to change dog food hi (new to the forum). my yorkie is about 10 months old and currently we feed her eukanuba. here are the problems we are having. she eats her poo (yuck!) and she also scratches alot and is shedding (that may be normal though). im thinking she may have food allergies but i dont think she has been scratching the whole time, we thought she had fleas but we have sprayed her and there are no fleas but she still scratches alot. ive been looking at that natural balance but i would rather be able to go to pet smart and get the food than have to order it off the internet. she also eats grass, roaches, anything! which this may be normal. please help. thank you.

my puppy ate her poop too. We changed her food and she stopped, but she was much younger than that. As far as the scratching I don't know.

I would certainly change her food. There are so many better choices out there!! I want Bella to be healthy and free of pain of arthritis when she is older so I try to feed her wheat free food and snacks. Most people here dont use wheat products because of allergies that make their babies scratch. I didnt have that issue with Bella. Try a lil research her and see if you find the info you need. www.dogfoodsanalysis.com I am currently feeding a raw dehydrated food from Thehonestkitchen.com. There are some really great foods out there. Just depends on where you are located and what is available to you! good luck in your food search!

I have to agree that Eukanuba isn't the best food. It has corn which is a know fact that causes allergies and it has by-product, which if you google it you'll read all about 'what exactly' by-products are. Petco has Natural Balance which is a pretty good food to be able to buy at the chain stores. They have a Duck and Potato flavor which a lot of people here rave about with their allergy dogs. Other good brands that you would have to purchase at stores like a mom and pop type dog food store are: Merrick Canidae Nature's Variety California Natural Solid Gold Now for the poop eating. How long have you had her? Has she done that from day one? Is she left alone a lot?

Poop eating. There is no real definite answer as to why and there is no definite way to stop it. There are things that work for some but not for others. So hopefully #1 the new food will stop it, but just to maybe help it along, I would go out to the Super Market and in the spice isle, buy the product ACCENT - this is suppose to help make the poop taste bad (as if it's not bad enough). What you do is sprinkle some ontop of her daily food. It may take a few days, and you may have to do for a week or 2, but hopefully it will stop it. I know this works for a number of dogs. But be prepared that you may have to deal with this, b/c if she is left alone for long periods of time, this may have started out of boredom and it may be a hard habit to break. I have 2 that are 3.5 yrs and we are still battling this nasty habit. | |
