| getting him to sit still when cleaning ears okay, so once about every 1-2 weeks, i use a cleanser that i got from my vet to clean Kash's ears. i'm sure everyone on YT experiences stinky yorkie ears (although i kinda like the smell, LOL!). anyway, Kash absolutely goes nuts when he realizes what i'm about to do. i sit on the floor (indian-style), place him in my lap, and start to try to squirt the cleanser into his ear. when he feels me flip his ear over, and then he sees the bottle, i mean, you would think i was about to kill him by the way he squirms and wiggles to get away from me! he's only 2.7lbs, but he is strong! i try to hold him down with one hand while holding the bottle of cleanser in the other, but i don't want to hurt him so i can't hold him too hard. by the time i get the cleanser close enough to his ear to squirt it in, he squirms away. it's really hard and frustrating. it takes way longer than it should, and usually makes a mess because i end up missing his ear completely. i wish he would understand that if he just stayed still, it would be over quicker... and that it's not going to hurt. do all dogs hate when liquid is put in their ears? i know you shouldn't get water in their ears, but this cleanser is specifically for dog ears and it says on the back to use it 1-2 times a week... and i don't even use it that often. one thing it does do is make Kash's ears smell wonderful! like sweetpeas and vanilla. LOL. anyway, does anyone know what to do to make him be still when i'm cleaning his ears? should i just have my bf help me hold him down? i feel like that would be even more tormenting. should i just accept the fact that he'll ALWAYS try to escape? p.s. i think one reason he hates it is because when i first got him, he had an infection in both ears, and i had to put medication in his ears for about 10 days. maybe he's remembering that experience??

| Mine hate it, but I just do it because it is best for them. There are times that my dh has to hold them for me. Good luck!

| Try wrapping him in a blanket or a towel getting him settled down then do it. I used to have to do it to my english bulldog and wrapping her up was the only way I could do it. Betty |

| Just tell him, "I am Borg. Resistance is futile. You are being assimilated" . Seriously, whenever we have to anything with ours where they get 'squirmy', my wife and I just double team; one holds and the other one does whatever (ear cleaning, trimming behinds, cutting hair on foot pads, etc.). It cuts down on the time and makes it less likely to hurt them while doing it. It does seem like the little ones are the biggest problem to keep still, though. |
