Sophie needs to gain weight I have a Yorkie who is about to turn one on August 11 and I need to start gradually switching her food from puppy chow to an adult food. What brand would you suggest? She doesn't seem to be gaining any weight on this Purina Puppy Chow but she eats all the time. She is a puker so I need to be careful of her sensitive stomach. She doesn't gasp for air or anything so I don't think I will take her to the vet because of the vomiting. Also I am a worrier. I worry about everything. My brother died last year of cancer and then I bought my Yorkie. She has really helped after my brother's death because we were so close. So after reading about vomiting and everything of course I worry that she is going to die any minute now of a collasped throat.

Purina Puppy Chow is not a great food for yorks and might be part of the reason for her sensitive stomach. There are some great threads for food on the forum, try the search.

My four Yorkies are fed Innova EVO which is a grain free food. They are doing great on it. I would feed free choice, but I have one PORKER who is an obsessive compulsive eater..... LOL Chiz lives to eat, the other three eat to live.

She weighs four pounds but her breeder said that she would probably only weigh four pounds grown and she will be a year old on August 11. She just looks skinny to me.

I like Royal Canin for Yorkshires. It is made for Yorkshires sensitive stomachs. Has the omegas for the coats, ect.. As far as her weight if she seems to be under weight, you can try adding a half of a teaspoon of sour cream to her diet about three times a week. I just add to the food and stir. This help produce fat and has calcuim for her to boot. Not to mention your dog will love it. If the vomiting persist after changing her diet to a formula for sensitive stomachs I think I would take her to vet to make sure there isn't a underlaying problem. I too, am a worry wart. I am sure the vet loves it though. But these babies look to us for their care and they deserve the best we can give them, to repay them for their unconditional love they give us. Sorry for your loss. I will put you in my prayers. Be blessed and let us all know how your girl does. Sue

| You may just have one of these slimmer built babies. Yorkies are kinda like people- no two are exactally alike. I had a little girl that was 3.9 lbs. at 9 months. She was just as healthy as can be. She had a very small frame though. I honestly think that with her build she could not have handles to be more than 4 lbs. She had a sensitive stomach too, but not like what you describe. She would only throw up if she got into my Weimaraner's food dish. I would definitely take the advice of these people about switching her to something for sensitive stomachs. Do it gradually though or it will really throw her for a loop! At her age and the fact that she has been on this same food for a long time yet still throws up- something has to be up with her stomach. Is she throwing up everytime she eats, everyday? I am not a vet or anything, but if I constantly threw up my food, I would be a little concerned. I think you are doing the right thing by consulting this forum, but check with your vet too. HE/She might have some suggestions about diet and maybe he could give your baby a quick exam just to rule out any other problems. I wish you good luck. I would always freak out when Pixie threw up because hers was usually combined with loose stools, but once it was out she was fine until she visited the "big" food bowl again!
