For those of you who recently switched to raw Did you introduce into the diet gradually or did you just make the switch? I have read that some people introduce it gradually and some just make the switch. For those of you that just made the switch, what kind of problems did you experience? |

Anyone? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I switched my girls cold turkey. They didn't eat it the first time; nibbled the second time; inhaled the third time and from that time on. |

I switched cold turkey and had absolutely no problems :) |

I switched cold turkey, no pun intended. :p I've been on the prey model raw for 3 days now. It's going great. No tummy upset at all, I'm pleasantly surprised. The only negative I have is that I have to hold the chicken for my girls because they aren't used to eating it on their own. I hate doing in it some ways because I feel like I have to keep washing my hands but aside from that, which I'm sure will only be temporary, I can't think of a negative. Zoe only went poop once yesterday and both dogs poos are much smaller so that's a big plus! Plus, all the chewing really tires them out! If you haven't already, check out this thread here on yt: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...odel-diet.html Theresa |

Ok, just went cold turkey. I am trying NV lamb medallions and was advised to also incorporate raw chicken parts twice a week as the medallions won't help with the teeth and breath. I always thought chicken bones were bad for dogs. They may splinter and lodge in their throats. I guess raw chicken bones are ok, or is the chicken bones bad for dogs a total misconception? My babies were on Canidae, so hopefully the detox phase will be minimal considering Canidae is supposedly a high quality dog food. |

I think it's the cooked chicken bones that splinter, not the raw. It's better to switch cold turkey from kibble to raw because they have a different digestion rate, which can upset doggie's tummy :) |

Yes, don't ever feed cooked chicken bones but the raw bones are perfectly fine and actually good for cleaning their teeth the natural way. Other raw bones too are fine although the big leg bones from cows and like animals are too big and not so good for their teeth as it can cause them to break. |

wow i still haven't made the leap to raw...kinda scared really...hehe...but since everyone went cold turkey it might not be that bad...so i guess i will be visiting the only place that sells NV Raw Diet tomorrow after work...hehe...thanks! |

I switched both of my dogs cold turkey with no issues whatsoever. Lacy started eating raw two years ago. I started out feeding her the chicken/turkey. Just made a sudden switch with no problems. Rylie actually started eating Saturday. I switched him cold turkey too and just fed him vension and lamb since that's what I have here...no issues at all. Solid poops and acting 100% normal. |

I tried to switch gradually, but Xavier just picked out the Nature's Variety and left all the Wellness. So he switched cold turkey. And he LOVES it!!! |

I switched Autumn and Blaze back in February cold turkey. We had no problems at all!!! Good luck |

So far so good. For the NV feeders, how many medallions do you feed per meal? |

switched cold turkey -- no problems. morgan is 4-4.5lbs and gets 3-4 medallions a day. |

This is probably a stupid question, but I just bought some nv raw chicken to try out on Hunter. But when you thaw, does it need to be in closed tupperware or zip lock bag in fridge or can it be in an open container. And do you serve it straight from the fridge or let it sit out before serving? Thanks! |

I thaw mine in a closed container, over night in the 'fridge. Treat it just as you would raw meat you are feeding your family. I serve it straight from the 'fridge, I tear it into little pieces and put it in their bowels, washing my hands thoroughly before and after handling it. Sheila |

I thaw mine in the fridge in tupperware. OMG... I am feeding double what I should be feeding them. They scarf it down so fast that it seems like not enough food. |

Bobby's first day on NV raw Today was Bobby's very 1st day on NV Raw. So far so good. He seemed to really like it. I gave him 4 medalions. He weights 9 lbs. he is acting like he is hungry, he keeps going to his bowl and licking it. I am going to try giving him 5 medalions tomorrow. |

switched both of mine cold turkey with no issues! thinking about doing the same for my newest baby when she arrives..which is tomorrow!! |

I also went cold turkey. I was told that even if you experience some diarrhea from the switch in the beginning, it's nothing to worry about as it shouldn't last long. This is just a sign of the dog expelling all the crap out of their system. |

I gave Hunter his 1st feeding of NV raw tonight. He kinda sniffed, then licked, then gobbled it up. I am worried though, I gave him the chicken medallions (he has been on Merrick's can and dry before this)....should I be worried about any sort of allergy. It looks like some people had problems with the chicken. Should I be on the lookout for anything, or be trying another type of meat?? Thanks!! |

I switched my 8 month old Yorkie, Jack, Cold Turkey to NV Raw Medallions. He really didnt eat much or care about food, and being only 6 lbs I was worried that he wasnt eating enough. I am so glad I made the switch!! I only feed him the medallions with no Kibble. I found with just the Raw food, Jacks eyes are better, less scratching and the best part - His poop is wonderful - Small with little to no smell. He also went from pooping 3-4 times a day, to 1-2. I have some grain-free treats that I give for rewards but do not want to add any grains to his diet. I actually want to thank everyone one this web site who wrote about the raw doet. I had never heard about it before this sight but knew I needed to find something different for jack. I give him Chicken, Lamb and Venison and he loves them all!!! THanks to all. I highly recommend this type of diet! |

NV Raw started off so well, now... I started Bobby on NV chicken earlier this week. He took to it really well the first 2 days. Now he wont touch it. I have tried to hand feed it to him, and he still wont touch it. He just sniffs it and then walks away. Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if I should try another flavor. I have been having to give him kibble for 2 days because he wasnt eating. He eats that just fine..I am not sure if I should wait it out or try something new. |

Kia turned off to the NV, too, after vomiting twice. Plus, there was a bone fragment in it that cut her mouth. So, we're done with NV raw. I found two good size bone fragments in another medallion. I think Kia is just too tiny to handle those bones fragments, and I'm glad it was only her mouth that got cut. Sheila |
