| please answer my question hey guys i mentioned the other day that abby might have allergies to her food cuz the top of her paws are kinda missin some hair. i am currently givin her welness puppy and gerber chicken. i am tryin my best to not give her the gerber. the wellness puppy has chicken as one of its ingredients, so cud this be the reason?? honestly since i reduced her gerber intake i dont see her biting as much or barely at all anymore. my question is if i can only feed her puppy. i know wellness has other flavors but they dont say puppy. is it ok for me to not ggive her puppy?? thanx |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How old is she? There are foods that are all life stages. Plus, many foods are just "marketed" as puppy foods - but if your check the ingredients and % breakdowns, they're actually identical - so you probably have options. If it were me, and I was seeing those symptoms - I'd eliminate chicken completely.

| Is it possible that she is allergic to something that she walks on such as grass. I once had a yorkie that was allergic to grass and it first showed up with those same signs.

| I guess I would pull all chicken for at least two months but at the same time, I'm not sure it is a food allergy. Is she scratching her ears? Itching says allergies but losing hair where she isn't scratching makes me think it is something else. Has a skin scraping been done? AAFCO sets the guidelines for the amount of nutrients that dog food contains. You would have to get their guidelines for puppy food and see if they match the adult food you want to feed. I don't think it will or it would be labeled All Life Stages. Puppy food and all life stages are the only ones that I would feed a puppy because of their special needs.
