I Love Thor Donating Member | Allergies...Heredity? So are yorkies' allergies heredity? If not, where do they come from, how do they develop? Thanks. |

| I haven't seen any studies done on it, but I really believe that some allergies are hereditary - not all but some. If a dog has severe allergies it probably shouldn't be bred. If you think about it a lot of parents with allergies have kids with allergies so I'm sure its the same in the dog world.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Thank you MyFairLady for your input. I just got this on Wikipedia (pertaining to humans though): Genetic basis It seems that the likelihood of developing allergies is inherited and due to some irregularity in the way the immune system works, but the specific allergen, which causes the development of an allergy, is not.[16] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allergy#Genetic_basis |

I Love Thor Donating Member | I was just wondering about this in terms of avoiding this issue when I do get another yorkie. Thor is a tough cookie (thankfully) and Harry is pretty tough too. I can't imagine what some of you guys go through with your dogs that are so terribly allergic to multiple things. |
