YT Addict | natural flea remedy Hello, i'm looking for a natural flea remedy. I have been reading that frontline etc... will eventually cause cancer and prevent dogs from having normal heat cycles. I have always had a concern with the fact that something so strong , that we must immediately wash our hands and clothing if contacted could be dangerous for us, how can it not hurt our little dogs. I truly believe it will. I would like some info on anything natural to kill fleas and ticks. We are going to spray our yard and fog our house, but I have a problem putting this stuff on my babies. |

| I use a spray of 1/2 apple cider vinegar to 1/2 water and spray the dogs daily. It seems to work pretty good for us! I can't remember the exact website that I fould the recipe on, but I thought I would give it a shot last summer, and the boys weren't too bad with fleas. (We have a Great Dane, Shih Tzu, 2 chihuahuas, a beagle/ shih tzu mix and now my lil' bit...) Oh! And we also feed them garlic/ yeast tablets... Last edited by chimicole; 04-08-2008 at 02:56 AM. Reason: Forgot too add the garlc/ yeast tablets.... |

Do you walk you dog also? The reason I asked is because Buddy is walked outside and we have deer and wild animals all over. Heaven's only knows what's in the grass so I am forced to use one of the flea meds on him during the summer months. Also is you dog around other's during his walks?

| I used Dawn dishwashing detergent once and it worked, but I think it burned their eyes, so i trashed that idea. I don't have a real problem with my Yorkies, just the ShihTzu. My hubby thinks it's because she's light colored. Is there a HW with flea repellant?

| My vet recommended Head And Shoulders ... believe it or not it actually works..... plus it leaves their coat really soft... it soothes the skin if they are itchy too.... |

| honestly...i've tried several of these all natural flea preventatives. none of them worked for me. i used garlic /yeast tablets.....natural sprays from the store and essential oils. maybe ..it's were we live or that i walk him 3x @ day in an area w/ deer and other critters. i don't want to hurt him with the k9 advantix, but it's the only way to keep him flea free. last year ,,i went really far with the all natural stuff until i just couldn't handle seeing him and i bit up by fleas. i bombed the house ...sprayed the yard..and sprayed him daily w/all natural sprays. i hate to be a "debbie downer" , but fleas are bad here.

Seems the dogs who do eat dog food are the ones that suffer with fleas more often. Dogs who have a compromised immune system are also good candidates for fleas.

| I use a spray of 1/2 apple cider vinegar to 1/4 water and 1/4 skinsosoft from Avon put it into a spray bottle and use that daily. We also use it on our horses. It works great on little dogs that you don't want to put harsh chemicals on. |

YT Addict | Thanks everyone. I found the site for half acv and half water. I used it and so far no fleas. Wer are going to spray our yard if the rain ever stops here in Mo. We are also going to bomb our house. I haven't seen any fleas inside but i'm sure they are here.I have used frontline before now and i'm worried about what it may have already done to my babies. I live in the middle of a forest and we have deer , squirrels,etc.. I mostly take them out on a leash so they don't get in the woods to much. I do appreciate everyones input. I will give all a try if the apple cider vinigar quits working. Thanks |
