To dock or not to dock??? Anyone ever see a Yorkie with its full tail? Do they have to be docked? Is there a site to see pics of YT's with tails? |
i want to see a picture of one with a tail too.... i've only seen docked tails. |
Sadie is not docked! 4 Attachment(s) here's pics of our sweet baby... She wages it ALL THE TIME! It's so cute! |
The YTCA sets the standard for the Yorkshire Terrier in the USA and the standard calls for a tail docked to a medium length. I personally would not buy from a US or Canada breeder that did not dock tails. I very much prefer a properly docked tail on a yorkie. |
And a few more.... 3 Attachment(s) Because we are so in love with her!:p |
What a cutie, Brooke!!!! I don't think they dock Briewer (sp?) tails? Not sure, though. |

I Love long tails! I want to get another little boy some day and will find one with a tail, just for me... hehe |
Thank you for the pics. What a precious doll! I think she looks wonderful with her tail. If the dog isnt going to be shown then maybe it is ok to be natural. |

Izzie is docked, I like the docked tails.. But Sadie is adorable and her tail is just to cute.:) |
I like them and I don't.. lol My Bella (biewer) has a tail and I absolutely love it and wish all of my yorkie kids had them.. But at the same time I love the stubs... haha.. I sit on the fence with this one.. |
Brooke, your baby is so cute. I love the tail! Ours was docked too short, and she has nothing but a stump. The groomer leaves longer hair on the tail, and she wags the hair and butt! I like the tail. It is much better for wagging!:D |
tough decision for sure When I was a breeder, I was looking for a show dog within my litters so I docked, but did not like the very thought of it. If I was to ever breed again, I think I would do the kind thing and leave the tails on. In every other country except for Canada, I believe it is illegal to dock tails and to crop ears. When it the USA going to ban this outdated procedure? There used to be a need for it when yorkies were bred specifically for hunting, not there is no need besides vanity. JMHO... http://crownroyalyorkies.com |
She is beautiful and I love her tail, I love the long tails, it gives them character:D |
Tails doc for Yorkies...but Brewiers long tail is what I have seen. It should be doc within the first week. Brooke she is beautiful...first time I have ever seen one with a tail. Precious. |

My baby has a docked tail and I do love it but.....I was a vet tech for years and when they dock tails at 2-3 days old they clamp the tail and just cut it off. A little glue or suture at the end and that's that. No anesthesia and no painkillers because they are so young. (at least that's how it was done 10 years ago..maybe different now...)Those poor pups just scream and sream. I eventually refused to assist with tail docking (and cat declaws)..so I struggle with this. I would definatly if give a choice leave the tail..but my breeder shows and stays within the standard and I understand that. I love my breeder and would never buy from anyone else so that's a choice that I have to live with. |

Their tails are like little fans curly up but in this photo it's lying flat . I love the fact you can tell what going on with them by the way their tail is sitting. High on her back like a scorpian means really confident. straight out is a bit worried about something, under neath them means very scared and my favorite is when the little end part wiggles is means they are very happy.:D :D Sorry I could not get a better photo the rest of the good photos are on my other laptop! |
Docking has been illegal in the UK since April 6th 2007. Under Kennel Club rules you can not now show any dog born after that date that has had it's tail docked, no matter what breed, so not just Yorkies but all the others.....Boxers, Dobermans, Rottweillers etc. My older ones were docked but my youngest, born last year, has a full tail. |
