| Does anyone know anything about the drug Torbutrol? My 3 pound yorkie was given a prescription for Torbutrol after having elbow surgery. I am worried about giving her a whole tablet. She is so little! From what I understand, it is similar to morphine. That's scary! I would be very greatful for any input. Thank you!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It depends on the milligrams on the tablet. Didn't the same vet who did the surgery give you the prescription? There's probably someone on call. Poor little thing I hope she's better soon.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | hmmm, torb is not a drug we usually send home with patients. We use the IV form as a pre-med to help sedate patients before we induce them for surgery. what kind of elbow surgery did she have?

| Zippy is on Turbotrol now, he is 14 lbs. and was given the 5mg dosage 1/4 - 1/2 tablet 2-3x /day. So I give him 1/2 tablet 2 x/day.

The groomer is paying all of her medical bills and medications. I am still upset with them because they didn't call me or take her into the vet when this happened and look at her now, she has 13 stitches and can't walk

I understand why you're so upset, and it's good that the groomer is paying the bill, but I hope there is someone you can report her too. I recognize accidents do happen, but they should have called you immediately, and/or taken her to the vet. Let us know how's she is doing. I just noticed you are a new member, welcome to YT, we have a groomer review forum, you might want to post there when things settle down a bit.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Your poor baby. I would just double check the dosage with my vet to put your mind at ease. I am so sorry that happened to your baby.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I just realized Joey was on Torbutrol after castration surgery. He weighed about 4 pounds at the time, his dosage was ½ of a 1mg tablet, but you need to remember, your dog is in a lot more pain. Torbutrol did not work well with Joey. The first dosage, I didn't notice too much difference, but by the third dosage, I noticed Joey got increasing agitated/ energetic, after giving it to him. Some medications do the reverse on some patients, instead of making him sleepy, it hyped him up. So the vet told me not to give it to him anymore. He was fine after that, but like I said before, your baby's surgery is much more painful. Good Luck!
