Thanks for so many helpful replies! I love this site and it is so helpful to know others have the same issues once and awhile! I can say I was disappointed that we had no blood tests run on Gyspy when I brought her in, but perhaps from all I have read it would not have mattered unless I wanted to do the allergy testing! The main thing I am concerned with, is it happening again, since I cannot figure out why it started in the first place! We have flea protection on her and I take her for a bath every two weeks and a grooming once a month! She is short hair at the moment and I do comb her oftern. I am back to the food and perhaps that is it. Comments are great!

I did not know how often you could use tea tree shampoo on your dog. I haves her bathed every two weeks or so! Let me know!

I picked some up at my local Supercuts. They were running a promotion of 1 bottle of shampoo and 1 bottle of conditioner for a price of roughly $22 (I think). A little pricey for some, I know..but it was a better deal than purchasing the bottles seperately. That, and you can use them yourself...not just your Yorkie.

Just as a personal note for us, don't use this stuff on your own hair daily. Maybe once every few days or once a week. While the cooling sensation is nice,...it can dry out our scalps if used daily.

Regarding our Yorkies, it leaves my Yorkie's coat to be extremely soft and quite nice. The smell is a "minty" or eucalyptus smell.

Some other companies are selling shampoos w/ Tea Tree oils in them, but Paul Mitchell is the one that I know about.[/QUOTE]

Fleas are one cause..hot weather can be bad for them..especially under collars or on thick coats.. Tea Tree oil works wonders. Also, you can use Tree oil shampoo after the spot is gone to prevent them.

Please double-check on using Tea Tree oil on dogs of any kind. I have read in multiple places that Tea Tree oil is toxic (even highly toxic) to dogs, let alone our tiny Yorkie babies. Thanks for listening.

Hello!

My 11 lb Yorkie, Gracie, had a hot spot on her rump several weeks ago. The area (about the size of a nickel but elliptical in shape) was an angry red, had crusty stuff around it and the hair fell out on its own. I used Witch Hazel to cleanse it and applied raw organic coconut oil 2-3 times daily to treat it. It cleared up within a couple of days. Now I believe it is healed but the skin is very dark, almost black, in contrast to the surrounding skin which is a healthy looking pinkish color. Is this normal? Will that patch of skin eventually turn a healthy pinkish color, too? Thanks for everyone's time and advise!
