| Itching from Royal Canine food I have been using Royal Canine Yorkie food for my two yorkies. My girl yorkie Roxy seems to do just fine with it, but my boy yorkie Dinky seems to itch all over. At first I thought it was just allergies and even gave him medicine and it didn't go away, could the food be causing this? I bought Eukanuba yorkie food today hoping that it will help with the itching. Does anyone one have an suggestions for me? I just want to make sure that they eat a good food, but at the same time I feel so sorry for him because he is always itching

| Tucker had the same problem with RC. He drove me crazy scratching and his eyes were very runny. Now that he is eating Science Diet the scratching has stopped and the runny eyes are 90% better. I hope the change in diet does the same for Dinky!

| The corn in the Royal Canin is probably the cause of the itching. Neither Eukanuba or Science Diet are very good foods, I'm sorry to say. My girls are doing great on Artemis Small Breed, kibble, and Evangers canned. Sheila |

| Yes, that is happened to so many Yorkies including Ellie. Euk won't be much better and it isn't a great food anyway. Could you try Wellness or Natural Balance?

| Layla scratches herself too but what you will really notice (at least i did) is she will start chewing on her paws. I tried reintroducing chicken into Layla's diet and right away she started on her paws... so i knew right away it wasn't going to go. |

| Scratching ears and jaws and biting paws are signs.

| I went out and bought RC not knowing that it would cause itching. I was having problems with Tobey already itching and I notice Isabella was itching as well...So of course after I bought it I read that it causes itching, so I didn't want to take the chance and I went out and got Wellness, just bc everyone seems to recommend it. Well I went to the store and bought it and the price is way better than RC and it is better quality food.

| ohh okay. I haven't notice her chewing her paws or anything out of the ordinary..She rubs her face with her paw sometimes but she has always done that. I didn't know food could make them itching, glad I saw this. Thanks!

| I didn't know that either till this site and my vet never mention it. That's why I found a new one when I got Izzie...because I've been battling Tobey and the itching for almost 2 yrs it would get better than come back, but this time it was bad. I was going to Banfield in Petsmart, but not anymore

| My vet recommended Hills or Purina. We live in a small town, and I am not sure he is fully aware of all of yorkies little quirks. So, i switched to Purina Beneful (It was small enough for my little puppy to chew.) I have noticed itching, but nothing major. No chewing on the paws or anything. Has anybody had any luck or bad experiences with Purina?

How do you know if a dog food is a good food? I would like to trust everyone's opinions, but at the same time I would like a little education.

| I feed mine Chicken soup, but when I got Sampson he was on RC puppy, and like everything else, mine was eating it too before I got him completely switched over, and they were scratching like crazy and had the worse runny eyes, I thought somehow they had fleas(on advantage) or had a cold, until I realized it was the RC, well got rid of and after a week on Chicken soup no itching or runny eyes I think it was the corn in it.
