| how many times a day should 9 week pup eat?? i am trying to train my puppy to eat 2 times a day because this is what the breeder and vet say. my problem is that my puppy scarfs the food as soon as i put it in his bowl. if im going to be at work all day how will the food in his bowl last him all day(or at least half the day)?if he eats it all as soon as i put it down? also. at what times should feed him? this is what i do now..... feed him at 9 am then at 2pm then at 6 or 7pm. does this sound good or what? im afraid that if i want to leave his food out for breakfast and lunch he'll eat it all in one sitting!! how can i train him to eat throughout the day and not it all in one minute. please help......thanks |

| A puppy should eat 3 to 4 times a day. My vet had us go to 2 times a day after Milo was neutered at 7 months, but now he free feeds. |

6-7 am. I don't get home til 3:30. SoI feed lunch when I get home. But I leave her with dry kibble in her bowl. I don't THINK she eats it. But it makes me feel better about leaving her. She chows on her lunch. Then her dinner around 7 pm. I keep her on the same schedule when I'm home, too.

| A 9 week old puppy is barely weaned. Shoot, my last litter was still nursing at 11 weeks. They need to have access to food at all times. If he's scarfing down food he's hungry. His stomach is too little to hold that much at one time.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yikes, my friend! At 9 weeks, I'd be feeding that baby (yes, baby) at least 4x a day for now. At 12 wks, try going down to 3x day - depending on weight and any hypoglycemia issues. If it were me, I wouldn't go down to 2xday until 16-20 weeks, depending on weight. What is the pup's current weight?

| ok so i feel really guilty now!! ive been starving my baby. is anyone familiar with eagle pack dog food. that is what im feeding him now. it says for a puppy who weighs 0-3 pounds you should feed 1/4 to 3/4 cup a day total. it just is so much more than what my breeder told me to feed him. i dont want to starve him but i also dont want to make him fat so he has knee and leg problems. after measuring the 1/4 cup it came out to 80 pellets which i will split 4xday= 20 pellets each meal time. does this sound right? please help thank you everyone who has replied! |
