Mia got one of her shots today (???)

Hi All,

Mia got one of her shots today. She has been shaking and i think she has a fever. she cries & barks when i pick her up. from the time we got home she has been laying down and wont play or eat. what can i do to make her feel better? i am worried because she never barks or cries this way. she is such a healthy baby and to see her this way really worries me. the doctor said she would be groggy but i am still worried. her tung is hanging from the side of her mouth, i tried to give her water because i dont want her to get dehydrated. any advice anyone can give ??

Do you know what was in the shot she got? How long ago did she get the shot?

Being a little sore afterwards is normal, but shaking and her tongue hanging out of the side of her mouth is not. I would call your vet or an emergency vet asap.

Call the vet NOW and get her back in there! If they are closed go to the ER. Good luck!!

Are her gums pink or are they pale?
She might need to go to the ER.

Call your vet ASAP!!! That is not normal what so ever. She could be having an allergic reaction to it.

hi - thanks for replying so fast. she received Vx025- DHLP/cor/parvo shot. i will call the vet.

It is probably the L (lepto). I wouldn't waste time calling (unless just to tell them you're coming) knowing that. She needs to go.

Ellie had a reaction to most likely lepto. She collapsed and went into shock. It is a dangerous vaccine.

actually, sophie had her shots yesterday.
i was unable to stay home and watch her so i just put her in her kennel and removed her collar, because the vet said swelling could be possible.
She was fine, but when I got home she was very quite.
When i picked her up, she would cry.
My vet advised me that she would possibly be sore and woozy, so i didn't worry about it too much,
i figured the best thing to do would be give her 1 cc of benedryl like the vet prescribed and watch her for a few hours.
She slept normal (i didn't, i was up every few minutes worrying about her)
this morning, she seemed happy and healthy and doesn't cry.
I think it was just a side effect from her shots.

I'm concerned. I hope everything is okay. It sounds pretty serious. I wish the lepto vaccine was never created.

Is there a way that they can just give the other two and not the L part? When I went to go get all the puppy shots it was all in one container. Do they carry just the separate ones do you think or has it just become one all together?

Layla reacts the same way... she shakes and is hot and lethargic... we now ask for her shots to be spread out over a few weeks.. the rabies will knocks her out but not as bad.

Yes, you can get a combination vaccine without the lepto. That's what toy breed dogs should get unless there is an outbreak of lepto in your area. If there is and your vet advises you to get lepto, make sure it is given separately from the other shots with several weeks in between. Fort Dodge makes a single dose lepto vaccine.

The scary thing about lepto is that the reaction usually doesn't occur with the first shot so people think their dog can tolerate it. It's usually the second or even third shot that triggers the reaction.

Hi All,

Thanks for caring. i took her to the ER and just got back and they practically said i was over reacting and that she was fine. she was crying but they said that she was fine. they thought i was over reacting, i dont think so. i am worried and will continue to watch her. she ate and had some water, she also did #2- but still very sensitive.
