![]() For the past week or so my wife has noticed that our Yorkie's poop seems to have changed color. It is mostly brown to dark brown. There also seems to be small white areas on the outside of the poop. Sometimes more sometimes less. If the poop sits on the wee wee pad for a few minutes, these areas get whiter. We have not changed dog foods, but recently opened a new bag. We use the Eukanuba Yorkshire dog food. Has anyone experienced this? Kirby otherwise seems very healthy. Thanks.

![]() It is a little hard to understand exactly what you are talking about. I know dogs that have liver problems have poop that is lighter and greyish looking. Could you be seeing tape worms in his stool? Tape worms look like little segments of rice and when the dog poops the worms will crawl out of the poop and be on the floor around the poop. The tapeworms are white. I wish I could be more helpful. If it continues you might want to take him to the vets.

![]() He just pooped and it looks completely normal. There are no rice -looking segments and no worms. It looks like the normal dark brown color. I collected it and let it sit. Within 5 minutes, the color of the ends of the stool got lighter almost as if some type of oxidation had taken place. I believe there is something in the stool that is oxidizing. I am going to stop the new dog food we are using (Eukanuba Yorshire blend) and go back to Eukanuba puppy. Any input would be most appreciated.

![]() In regards to liver disease: "Another important symptom is light colored stool. Due to the lack of bile production, the stool will appear light and can be gray colored or pale." I would definitely take him off the Eukanuba Yorkshire blend because it is higher in protein. If you have not had blood work done on him lately then you might consider doing that if the light colored stools continue. Last edited by bjh; 02-16-2008 at 08:24 AM.

![]() I guess this is hard to explain. The poop comes out completely normal. It changes as described above later on. I guess we'll have his stool analyzed at the vet. Thanks for your help.
