| Vomiting Bile Everyday for about a Month - Liver Shunt? Kylee has been Vomiting Bile Everyday for about a Month. She hasn't really lost any weight yet - goes up & down about 1 oz. She did have her second heat cycle started Jan 1st. I feed them Canidae & Innova Small Bites BUT changed to Canidae & Innova EVO (higher protein). My son brought home a Pit Bull puppy 2 wks ago & Kylee is nervous about her. Kylee is 1yr 6 mths old. - Is this a symptom of Liver Shunt??? I am bringing her to the Vet this week Because I am worried about it.

| The higher protein food could be causing pancreatitis. You might want to stop the high protein food and see if the vomiting stops. It could be caused by stress also. I hope your baby gets better. |

| Bile Question My Yorkie is 2 1/2 years old now. He's done this since we've had him (age 3 months). I freaked the first few times, like any good concerned mommy would, and asked the vet about it. Apparently, this is normal for them. Something about their glands getting backed up and that's how they unclog them? It looks like a yellowish color surrounded by white, almost like an egg white consistency.... Squirt will do this spit-up thing 1 or 2 times each "set". I can tell when it's about to happen, because he starts to make this funny noise and his abdomen moves like he's gonna spit up. So, when I know it's coming on, I quickly pick him up and sit him over the toilet seat or get an old towel and put it under him. Then, I pet him (in case it scares him) to let him know it's ok and that he did nothing wrong.... While this does happen frequently, it is not a daily occurence. Hope this info is helpful. Always cross check with your vet, or find an educated breeder near you to speak with.... Last edited by Squirt's Mommy; 02-11-2008 at 06:49 PM. |

Today she spit up clear liquid 3 times - never any yellow. I know what you mean about the Yellow Bile - because Scruffy does that every once in a while early in the morning.

Canidae Protein is 24% also. They are used to Caniade & regular Innova mixed together. I switched thinking it was better for them - Boy what a Big Mistake & my baby is suffering for it.

| If this isn't happening just in the morning (when they have an empty stomach), she needs to see a vet. It could be pancreatitis but every Yorkie should probably be bile acid tested anyway, so there is no harm in looking. I gave Ellie Innova canned (36% fat dry matter) before her bile acid test and 5 days later she had pancreatitis. It may have been the food...I don't know. I would get a blood panel done to look at amylase and lipase (could be elevated if pancreatitis) and a bile acid test.

| When you make the appointment, make sure to tell them ahead of time that you want a bile acid test done. It's relatively inexpensive, and if it comes out fine, then great, you have peace of mine now if it comes back high, then you know there's something going on. Good luck!! It's possible that it may be pancreatitis too..

| bile Two of mine have always done this if their stomach gets too empty. They are perfectly healthy. I always feed mine twice a day and make sure they eat a tiny amount before bed and they are fine this way |

| Mogli would have this happen randomly. Sometimes twice in a week, sometimes not for over a month. The vet said if it increased in frequency to bring him in. They also suggested giving him some pepcid (small dose) to lower the acid levels in his stomach and see how that worked. Also, sometimes this can happen simply from having an empty stomach ... so you could offer food 2 or 3 times a day in smaller amounts ... |

Scruffy is usually the one that vomits bile a few times a week. But it's not normal for Kylee. Kylee is going to see the Vet either Thursday afternoon or Saturday morning. I spoke to the receptionist about suggesting the bile acid test.

| Kylee had her tests today. Will get the blood test results tomorrow I'm not sure about when the bile acid results will be in. Do they usually come back the next day also?
