I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Could this be it???? I just thought of something as I was sitting here reading stuff online about shampoos. Not this past weekend, but the weekend before (I think it was either on the 19th, or 20th) I bathed Tatum with Johnson's Baby Shampoo (the lavender one) - I did this because I am completely out of the MinkSheen (although I ordered it last week and it should be here very soon). I had some leftover from when I used to have my in-home daycare and would bathe the kiddos (well wash their hair rather, not bathe them in it lol) if they got dirty outside or whatever. So I just grabbed this and used it. While reading about shampoos, I read that you should NEVER EVER use baby shampoo on dogs as it causes their skin to be severely dry as the PH Balance in it is not correct for dogs I didn't know this until now. Needless to say, I won't ever be using that shampoo again, but I was wondering...do you think that's what could have caused the sudden crazy ITCH FITS that Tatum has been having today??? She does have dry skin normally anyway, but today out of the blue she has just been sooo crazy with it, so much that I had to give her Benadryl. It is just something that crossed my mind when I read that about the baby shampoo. Do you think this could have caused it? Or not since it has been several days since I used it on her?

I I found out the hard way with Roxy. She began having dry flakey skin, then tremendous scratching all the time. I went through a few shampoos and settled on a Medicated Ones for skin issues. Well...totaly made her worse and she started to develop staph infections. This has been going on for almost 1 year. After doing some research, I do believe it is the following ingredient is the cause. Please check your labels, this stuff is in everything, if your baby has sensitive skin or skin issues, please research and find a product that is free of SLS: Sodium Laureth Sulfate Products containing these substances can affect those prone to eczema and other irritants. These substances provide a foaming quality to the product, allowing for better distribution of the product while washing hair or skin and while brushing teeth. When rinsed off, the product will have cleaned the area but will have taken moisture from the top layers of skin. In people with sensitive skin (prone to dermatitis, acne, eczema, psoriasis and chemical sensitivity), the drying property of these type of detergents can cause flare-ups of skin conditions or may worsen existing conditions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_laureth_sulfate | |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Poor Tater. **I would get her off the Missing Link asap. It contains flax. Some dogs cannot convert it - so the result is itch, itch, itch. Put her on Eicosaderm (fish oil + E) instead. **Stay away from all chicken and beef for awhile (the most allergenic meats). **Does she wear clothes all the time? If yes, I'd use an organic/natural shampoo and dryer sheet. (on her beds too) **As others have suggested - you could try Orijen 6-Fish - notoriously good tasting to dogs. It is higher protein, just fyi; I like higher protein, some don't. You could also try Natures Variety Instinct kibble and canned. Keep in mind that with higher protein kibbles, it is good to add canned bc they generally need more moisture to process more protein. You could also dribble water on their kibble instead - that would help. **Have you thought about consulting a nutritionist? I used Susan Blake Davis at www.askariel.com for Marcel - she is a MIRACLE worker - and works w/ a ton of allergy cases. Might be something to consider (phone consults is what I did). **Also could use cortisone cream around very irritated areas as it can be soothing. That's all I got for now, girly!

| I agree with Wylie's Mom try the Eicosaderm - she & MyFair Lacy convinced me of that in another thread & I just finally got around to ordering mine & waiting for it to arrive from vetamerica.com -- great prices there on lots of things. Also, I would be very suspicious of the shampoo - especially baby shampoo. But I've used mink sheek & I love Buddy Wash from Cloud Star -- but earlier this year I started having similar problems with Bubba's skin as you are describing. I posted a thread & Jeri Cunningham posted amazing pix of her dog - you can see them here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=104481 what she used & was recommended by her vet was NuSalTshampoo and Relief Creme Rinse (which I know vetamerica sells & maybe Petsmart) -- the results she had were impressive. I wanted to buy this, but was in a rush & instead bought locally some Tropiclean Oxy Oatmeal Shampoo & Oxy Med Treatment Rinse http://www.tropiclean.net/tropiclean_index.html - we have good results with this, but I still want to try the NusalT I have learned that what works for one dog, might not work for another editing - didn't see the thread on going to the vet - I'm sorry

YT 3000 Club Member | Chester has sensitive skin as well, I use hypoallergenic shampoo on him when he gets bathed at petsmart. I started using grizzly salmon oil awhile back on his wet food and with his dry food and it did help. Chester has more problems when the allergy season is out. I use laundry soap that has no perfune or dyes and same with the dryer sheets. I use a flea comg on him every nite or a brush to get the oil glands going. Chester is on solid gold and has been for ahwile, maybe your food needs more oil of some sort. |

| My yorkie has really dry skin also, but mostly on her ears. My vet said just to make sure I rub them for a few minutes a day to make sure oils in her skin are being moved around and this will also stimulate more oil to be produced. I know you said it was the nose, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt along with all the other things you are doing. |
