| When to expect her heat? And other insecurities... Hello everyone!! I am SCARED to death of spaying Lexie, so I'm wondering how much time do I have before her first heat? She is 4 months and 2 weeks old today. Will it do any damage to her if I wait a couple of heat cycles before I spay her? What age is the right age? We neutered Beau very early in his life (right when the vet said he was finally old enough) but that was before I knew anything about yorkies. What brand of undergarments would you suggest? Should I get Beau a belly band? Beau doesn't mark now, so will he start when she goes into heat? HELP! I'm going nuts!

| 6 months I think is when it starts. My vet told me it was best to spay before her first heat cycle. All I know is my gf took Chloe for shots and next thing you know I was getting a phone call saying she was getting fixed. She was 5 months old. |

| It is best to spay before the first heat because it almost completely eliminates your girl's chances of getting mammary tumors. Waiting til after the first heat reduces the chance some but isn't as good as doing it before the first. As long as she is over two pounds it should be fine. It is generally done between 4 and 6 months. I would not go beyond six months without spaying if you want to be sure to do it before her first heat. Even then it could happen earlier. http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=460

| My vet said 6months. She just turned 7months so I need to get her in ASAP. Scares me too, they are so tiny. I haven't been out of the hospital long with back surgery is the reason I haven't had it done. Right now they don't want me lifting anything. I will be so glad to get hers done. |
