she has sores all over!!!???

I have a 1 year old female teacup yorkie. She has had this skin problem in the past and the vet could not me a straight answer. She has these sores almost like scabs all over her. You can feel them ever time you pet her. They do not bother her ( only if you pick at them ) she does not scratch. The vet said they were do to stress----trust me when i say this dog has no reason to be stressed. He also said that if one in picked off then 10 more aill appear in its place. I had bought a $40. shampoo that only worked a few times. any advice on what it may be and what i could use to get rid of it.

red98vett 07-07-2005 03:56 PM

Wow - that would bother me and it sounds treatable - I think you may need to try another vet - it can't hurt for a 2nd opinion and maybe you can get some help for this - it's not normal for any yorkie to have a skin problem like this - and there ARE ways to combat it...I've heard allergies can cause skin bumps - but I think your vet isn't trying very hard help you - I'm not trying to sound like I'm bad-mouthing him - just maybe see what someone else says - I think you can treat this.

alex 07-07-2005 04:00 PM

do you know of a good over the counter medicated shampoo that may help

blykmyk44 07-07-2005 05:55 PM

are they sure it isnt ringworm??

chloeandj 07-07-2005 06:06 PM

I had a dog that used to get skin infections in her old age. She would be scabby all over. We never pin pointed the cause, but I always wondered if it was an allergy to fleas even though we kept advantage on her. We pretty much had to keep her on antibiotics to keep her skin cleared up.

Did they even take a sample to analyze? I go to a huge practice, and they have a lab right there so they can check stuff pretty quickly. Some seem to be "specialists" because the vets are always consulting with each other...

I'm with Villete... It might not bother her now, but who knows down the road

I am going threw the same thing with a Dachshund that was just given to me. The lady said she got bit by a bug, she lied. her vet papers stated lesions from a year ago. I am using a prescribed shampoo called "Malaseb", she's on antibotics and I have been putting Neosprin on the sores. it started out as small bumps and turned to bigger bumps with puss. and spread all over. They have all popped and are drying up, but hairless on the spots where the sores where. I changed her food to a "made for sensitive skin & Stomaches" she is getting better very fast but I'm afraid once I stop treating her with antibotics , it will come back. Good Luck!

sores

Look for a dog dermatologist..they do exist.

M DiBella 07-07-2005 07:35 PM

OK, I've experienced this and have now finally managed to get it under control! I have a tea cup, 3yrs. but it started last year. First of all, it's allergies(see my other post) My vet tested Cocoa by sampling the puss. She actually scraped the scabs! At that time she had a staff infection and was treated with antibiotics. She was also given Tavist, 1/2 pill two times a day. The sores dried up but never fully went away. She was uncomfortable with them. They usually were on her belly and she would know when I would want to look at them. I didn't use cream. This past week, thanks to all of you, I changed her food. I took her off of chicken and beef. I put a little fresh roast turkey from the deli in her dry food ( Science diet and Nutro). I also got Vet's Choice skin and coat conditioner for her food. It's like an oil you put in the food once a day. The pet stroe guy has a yorkie and experienced this problem too. it's magical stuff! She was also licking her paws like mad and now with the changes I've made, she has stopped the licking, the sores dried up and she's so content! I'm still scheduled to have her tested for allergies on Tueday but I may have worked it out! What are you feeding yours? Corn also causes them allergies. I hope this helps your baby. Don't worry, it is treatable, go to another vet!

alex 07-08-2005 06:16 PM

the sores do not have puss and I am positive it is not ring worm. The thing is you would have know idea that she has them just by looking at her because her coat is beautiful. You know they are there though when you pet her. the are very small. they do not itch her, they do not seem to bother her at all. She does wheigh so little being a teacup that when she was a puppy she had a problem with her blood sugar, but since she has gotten older she is fine now. Every once in a while she will have her shaking spells. I thought all of this may have something to do with it. I have know idea!!!

lycansmom 07-08-2005 06:26 PM

i highly recomment paul mitchells tea trea conditioner it helps clear up skin irritations.

M DiBella 07-09-2005 05:06 AM

I would go to another vet or dermatologist. it's sounds bad.it may not bother her but it can't be good.shaking spells? My mother-in -laws cocker had epilepsy. Did you check for that? Good luck.

Junebug 07-10-2005 10:54 AM

Otis had little scabs/dandruff type things all over his lower back/tail area of his body. They're hard to notice unless you're picking and exploring and digging at him, which I'm guilty of.

I did some internet research and figured it was a yeast infection. I went to the doctor, and she said they were old flea bites, and he probably made them worse by chewing and scratching. But I expressed my skepticism because I've never seen him chew or scratch that hard to make those ugly marks, so she gave me some topical antibiotics and Malaseb shampoo, which SEEMED to have worked.

One other thing is it's pretty sunny and warm in California, and we've been going to tons of walks. Otis is shaved pretty short, so I figured maybe he got sunburned, which made his skin kinda peel the way a human's skin would.

Divapup posted some information on where to get the Malaseb shampoo today.

Anyone interested might check out this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...hlight=Malaseb

Whatever happened with this as this is what happened to dd and used ketachlor shampoo ( like malaseb) and simplecef antibiotic for 20 days and completely went away - we took her to the dermatologist

My little boy, Hobbs, got those under his neck....like 10 of them. I took him to the vet and she said he was allergic to fleas and those were flea bites that he had scratched. She told me to shave his neck and put coconut oil on his neck. She also gave him a cortisone shot. I shaved his neck, doctored it, and all the little scabs have healed.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz duh old thread

ARCHIE 06-25-2007 10:58 AM

Before Buddy I had a terrier mix. I rescued him from the pound when he was around 2yrs according to the vet. Around 7yrs he developed 1 pimple on his head. Soon after many appeared. Blood work was done and I was told it was allergies.
He was allergic to grass, trees, chicken feathers, dog hair, which means
he was allergic to himself. I believed the vet to be a nut case so I went to another vet. No help from him either. I found a holistic doctor some distance from me but I went. She didn't reconized what the problem was and put him
on a special diet and more meds. He was already addicted to a steriod (azium)that I could not get him off, meanwhile they kept multiplying. The holistic vet
told me to take him to a psychaitrist. That's when I said good bye to her.
He lived to be 16yrs but you could not pet him, he was covered from head
to toe and was the best kindest dog there was. I hated walking him because he looked so bad. I never found out what it was and bathed him in a oatmeal bath to prevent him from scratching. It broke my heart but no one had answers. I had to PTS when his kidney's started to fail.
I hope you get some answers for your little one. It's awful when you can't
help them. I believe Teddy's to be somekind of virus but doc's had no clue.

My little Lola gets sores too. The vet told me it was a staff infection and gave me antibotics. They cleared up, but they are back again. He told me I could use a medicated Shampoo to help them. He said they she gets them because she is still young and her immune system hasn't built up enough to ward off a lot of stuff yet.

Her spots don't really seem to bother her either. She usually gets them under her neck and on her chest.

TLC 06-25-2007 11:02 AM

RLC12345678: So the Vet recommended putting Coconut Oil and that healed it? Wow, I feed them the oil, next time there is a skin issue, I will have to try that ;)

daisy mae06: ...nice save (I saw your original posting  - hahahaha)

dwerten 06-25-2007 01:03 PM

how long was she on antibiotics as derm said if not on for 20 days then infection isn't completely gone and will come back - simplecef is best on stomach she said

Of course you can bring back older threads! It is GREAT to do research on YT, I do it all the time. It's just sometimes, people don't realize they are older threads and then they post something to the original poster and then they realize it is an older thread :p :p :p

oh ok - i felt bad :( thought i was not suppose to do this - i am just learning and excited that maybe i can get my babies well with all the valuable experiences and information everyone has - it is like going to 100's of vets all at once :0) I am going to print all the threads on allergies and fax to my derm for her to review and go over with me

and i am going to ask her how many hours they take in vet school on nutrition as I have heard it is like 7 :(

Pepsizola Mum 06-26-2007 03:30 AM
