| nutrical Can you please tell me exactly what Nutrical is, and how it helps our babies blood sugar. I don't have my baby yet, so I have a lot to learn. Can you give this everyday. Also there is a product that is like their mothers milk.... what can you tell me about this. Do you add it to their dry food? Thanks for all the info. Joy, Nikki and Baby Chloe |

| Nutrical is a nutritional supplement that has sugar in it. The sugar helps if they have low blood sugar. Yes you can give it everyday. I used to give Jewels a dot of it 3 times a day. I don't know anything about the supplemental milk except Ive seen them selling it at petco.

| IMO .... every yorkie owner shoudl know about nutrical and hypoglycemia (so thanks for asking, this should be passed on as much as possible).... there have been several posts on here about peoples babies getting hpoglycemia and having to rush them to the vet ect with maybe even deadly consequences..... the symptoms should be clear to any yorkie owner when an attack is coming on and the first thing these little guys need is the extra calories (hence to nutrical)..... people that dont do their homework on the breed and can not recognize signs of this (or have nutrical...... and other necessities ready ... ) should not own a yorkie i hate it when i hear stories about yorkies dying from hypoglycemia when it could have been prevented, having an animal is a big responsibility and not everyone is up to the challenge Last edited by orinskye; 07-03-2005 at 05:39 PM. |

| Your so right Orinske. Jewels brothers were adopted by a breeder from another state. One of the pups died of hypoglycemia. It makes me wonder how a breeder could not spot the symptoms of hypoglycemia. My breeder gave me directions about it when I got Jewels. She was at a loss as to why that happened with that breeder also.

| Maggie's breeder said to give 1 inch 3 times a day, unless she is eating really well. Not only does it keep the blood sugar up, it also contains an appetite enhancer. When Maggie was 3 months old, I decreased it to 2 times a day, unless she was eating very good that day, then it was only once. The reason for Nutrical or Nutristat is that they are growing so fast and they don't eat enough to keep up with the energy they are putting out. Yes they do make Mother's replacement milk. Comes in liquid or powder.

| When I brought Sweet Pea home she was VERY ill. I had to give her all kinds of meds, force feed and bottle feed every 1-2 hours around the clock for 2 weeks. The nutrical I believed helped save her life. I would have to wake her up and give her some. It was the only thing she would eat on her own for a few weeks.

| Nutrical is a lifesaver. Linus had a hypoglycemic seizure, and I don't know what I would have done without it. I gave him some and that got him "stabilized" enough to rush him to the emergency vet. I don't even want to think about what would have happened without it. And I have everyone on YT to thank for that because I would have had no idea about any of it had it not been for everyone here!

| You can get nutrical at your vet or PetSmart, and goats milk at Petsmart or any grocery store. If your puppy has been weaned, I wouldn't think you would need goats milk. It might cause diarrhea. I would get bottled water instead, or pedialite in the baby section which is a sugar water. My breeder gave us a tube of nutrical and enough puppy food to last a couple of weeks, so you might check with them first, as one tube lasts a puppy a long time. Also, you will want to get the same food the puppy is eating now for an easy transition.

| I give my Gus a dime sized amount almost every day or if I feel he needs more nutrition. These little guys are pron to hypoglycemia and can go down very quickly. Gus's sugar level went down once and I had ran out of Nutri-Stat, so I gave him sugar water and he was ok after about 20 minutes or so. After that I always make sure I have NutriCal or Nutri-Stat on hand. I have one tube in his doggy bag, in my purse, and here at home. As far as supplemental milk,,, I had to give that to my pom and her pups after mom wouldn't nurse her pups or eat anything herself after only 3 weeks of giving birth. My cousin gives the milk to her pregnant mommies for extra nutrition

Needless to say when I took Dublin back for the next round of shots and said I didn't want her seeing him, I was told that she was no longer there. Something about deciding to go into dermatology instead ... I'm so glad they caught on. She was a nervous and obviously mis-informed person who had no business around dogs anyway. Let her pop pimples instead! lol Meanwhile, I too keep tubes all around the house...
