| Pregnant Yorkie Shakes I have a yorkie that is 30days into her pregnancy. Her belly seems firm and big. However, last night, she started shaking and hasn't stopped except when shes sleeping. She seems very uncomfortable and lays by the water a lot. Her stools look fine and she appears to move around as if nothing is wrong for the most part. She is also eating and drinking as normal. I am not sure what would cause her shaking or if it is even related to being pregnant. Any suggestions? |

What about her increase of calcium? ex. cottage cheese, yogert and ever try REAL GOATS MILK?! What type of food do u have her on? How about a good natural vitamin? If both of these have been addressed Maybe it is time to call your vet ...ask questions of him >>>> She hasnt gotten into anything ?? .... plus there is a FAQ and other threads for health questions.. How long she been doing this? Val

I can also visit petsmart to see if they have any vitamins. Are there any that you recommend? Thanks so much! Colleen

| Hi Colleen; What about adding cottage cheese or good milk ( can u get real goats milk? ) or go go Walmart or ur local Health Food store . Add it 2 soft food and especially if she is a picky eater she might be having low blood sugar ( do u have Nutra-Cal on hand at home or an equivalant? .. she might need all the encouragement too eat ..Tempt with tidbits of real chicken, cut up some meats (protein) .. You dont need problems with low blood sugar nor eclampsia (milk fever).. do a little research on those ... sounds like this needs to be addressed ASAP.. Don't forget to bug your vet often if something dont seem right ..... They expect that from a newbie lol Also; what about other breeders from in and around your local area? Can you locate one ask your vet for reference ... take care Val |

| Hey Val, Well I got a half gallon of milk last night and shes drank about 1/4 of it so far. Shes also been eating the puppy food. However, shes still shaking, just not quite as much. I do have nutrical. Ill try giving her some of that. The last time I talked to the vet, he said to stop by if shes still doing it. So unfortunately, Ill do that later if this doesnt help (he's kinda pricey). Thanks again for your help! Ill let you know what happens. |

| I'm glad she's better, but to be on the safe side start giveing her a small amount of cooked white rice, boiled chicken breasts cut up and a small amount of cottage cheese mixed in with her regular dog food every other day until the puppies are born.

Then keep her built up since when she nurses her body is given all it can to the pups... Keep the calcium going .... or else it will take from her bones and u dont want that will lead to more problems... Keep us posted .. and your very welcome Val and yorkie family lol

I found out that her shakes were coming from not getting enough vitamins. I thought feeding puppy food was enough, but its not. Start feeding her low fat milk. You could also look into getting some vitamin pills for pregnant dogs. Hope that helps!

| Hey can u guys help me out? I just joined the forum today to get some info about my Yorkie who may be pregnant. I was on another thread and got really scared and angry when another new person got blasted about breeding her dogs since she is not a breeder. I consulted with my vet before breeding my dogs and he was very supportive. My dogs mated Feb 9-14. I see no visible signs of pregnancy although I keep reading that it may be too early to tell. I'm planning on taking her to the vet within the next week to confirm it. Obviously this is my first litter and I believe it is hers too. She was abandoned by some renters who simply left her in a property that they could no longer afford. She is healthy and had all of her shots and extremly happy. The vet estimated her to be about 16 months old 3 months ago. My male dog is the same age. Any support that you can provide is greatly appreciated. I definitely want to have puppies to continue the lineage because I absolutely LOVE my dogs! Any info and support you can provide is greatly appreciated. |
