| yorkie dosen't eat much is there a reason why my yorkie dosen't eat when i put his food out? I have to play catch with his food so he can start eating,if i don't he'll go a whole day without eating. He seems to be fine though, always plays ,but during the day when we're gone,he's home alone and probably sleeps till we get home.He eats about 3/4 cup i about 4-5 days, maybe 1/4 a day, drinks plenty of water though. |

| Is this all food that he doesn't like to eat or just kibble? Do you think he is just bored while you are gone or is he lethargic?

| I know my trainer said to be careful with feeding by hand, since some dogs come to rely on that and won't eat otherwise. She suggested I put down Kasey's food for only a specific amount of time, and then take it away. Said I needed to teach Kasey that there are certain times that are mealtime, and that those are the times she should eat. Important to leave water down all of the time, though. Frankly, between doing that -- AND adding a little tasty stuff to her kibble (one strip of chopped up boiled chicken and a little sprinkle of parmesan cheese, plus water) -- she has developed a much better eating habit. In fact, she always wants more! She, too, used to leave her food.... but now she's much improved. I give her a lot of exercise so she doesn't gain too much weight! Hope this is helpful. Kim

| He just sits in a corner next to his food and won't touch it. Sometimes he'll eat after sitting there for like 5 mins and other times he won't touch it at all untill i play catch with his food then i leave him and he'll continue eating on his own. This morning he did not eat and this afternoon he only ate after playing catch like i mentioned.Maybe he 's not that hungry cause he's not active during the day????? |

| I wonder whether he thinks that eating is more fun when you play. My trainer told me to let her skip a meal or two, if she wants, just to learn that when it's time to eat it's really time to eat. I hated to do that, but it worked. If I were you, I might also experiment with adding something interesting to her food, if it's just kibble. When Kasey wasn't eating (and she was with the trainer for a week), she suddenly became interested when something else was sprinkled on her food -- a few bites of chicken with water (chicken soup, doggie style!), or a little cottage cheese mixed in. You might be able to find out if it's the food she doesn't like.... or simply if she's getting into the bad habit of thinking that food-time is play-time. I heard that you have to be careful with the feeding by hand thing, because Yorkies can get used to it and can stubbornly insist that's the only way they'll eat. I know it's tempting to do whatever the pup wants! I'm a total pushover! Let me know how it goes.... Good luck!!! Kim (PS: Kasey scarfed down her whole meal tonight! Exercise does also help to make them more hungry....)
