Yup - I'd give about 2/3 of an 1/8th tsp per butt (so grab an 1/8th measuring spoon, fill about 2/3 full - then you can get a feel to just do the "pinch" by hand).

as suggestions... after about 6 months of home cooking ask your vet to do a blood panal. This will check all the nutrients and such in her body.. and will tell you if she is lacking in something> i just had layla's done and it came back perfect and she isn't on a "Special receipe" diet... just whatever protien and veggie i mix together. So see how she does and get that done every year.

Thanks, Wylie's Mom, for the info on making the calcium. I buy organic, free range eggs so the shells should be of good quality.

I will definitely have a blood panel done in 6 mths, marcerella02, as you suggested. It will give me peace of mind, too.

I had a look at the Ask Ariel site and it looks very good. She recommends a LOT of supplements. Not sure I can afford them all!! The quality of her supplements seem to be excellent, I must say. You pay for what you get, I guess.

LOL!!! She may only recommend one or none, it totally depends on the dog. Many of her supps are for dogs w/ specific health issues...they aren't meant as maintenance supps - sorry if that was confusing.

Yes, there's a vitamin analysis that they can do to make sure they're getting enough vitamins or that they're not getting too much of certain vitamins.

Phew! That's a relief! When I looked at her suggestions on the the list and then checked out the prices...

I had 2 consults with her and she said I'm "good to go", unless I want to schedule something in the future. I had been having a terrible time w/ Marcel (long story) and his stools - mushy/mucousy/bloody for 4 mths. - every test in the world, hundreds at the vet. Finally, I found Susan and thought "well, why not?" - had a phone consult, she presribed a hypoallergenic homecooked diet for him - and VOILA - 1.5 days later he had a FIRM stool. We almost cried!

So, did that for a few months, then had my follow up consult at which time I brought up raw - and she was thrilled - so we developed a game plan and went for it. She is wonderful!!!!!!

That sounds really good. What did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking? How many supplements did she recommend that you use for Wylie?

It costs $75 for the first one and I think the second one was $50. I used 2 supplements - Notatum (heals the intestinal tract) and Gastrozyme (digestive enzyme). I already had probiotic - so she said to keep using the one I had, she wanted him on that as well.

Thanks, for the info., Wylie's Mom. I am very tempted to try her. Tootsy is doing well at the moment, apart from some emotional scars, which will take time for her to get over I imagine. This evening I was sitting on the sofa with my husband and Tootsy was stretched out on her fleece bed. I just covered my face with my hands as my eyes were a little tired and sore. Tootsie lept up and barked furiously at my husband who had done nothing! She really was very angry - barking and growling! We eventually worked out that she must have thought I was crying or upset and assumed my husband had done something to cause it. She must have been in a family with an abusive relationship, as she totally over-reacts to anything she perceives as violent or possible violent behavior. It is so sad. We reassured her and she settled down and was soon on my husband's lap again. We got such a surprise, though, and were totally bewildered for a few moments!
