| Christmas Hazards (((copied from newsletter and thought I would share))) Christmas Hazards During this holiday season watch your pets around the following items. These things can have serious consequences to your pets health. Holiday Plants:Poinsettia, Christmas rose, Holly, Lilies and Mistletoe are toxic to dogs and cats. Ribbons: Placing ribbons around your pets neck for the holiday season may cause them to choke. Bubbling lights: Older forms of this decoration may contain methylene chloride, which is a highly toxi chemical. Fire Salts: Contain chemicals that could be harmful to pets. Angel Hair (spun glass): Can be irritating to eyes and skin, and could cause intestinal obstruction if eaten in large amounts. Christmas tree water: Stagnant tree water or water containing perservatives could result in stomach upset if ingested. Decoration Hooks: Can cause blockage and/or trauma to gastrointestinal tract if swallowed. Styrofoam: Can cause your pet to choke if swallowed. Ornaments: These can look like toys to dogs and cats, but if they break them it could lead to serious injury, especially if swallowed. Tinsel: Can cause choking or internal trauma if swallowed.
