So, you're moving here or just visiting? How great either way! I have not been thrilled with any of the vets I've been to in the 3 years I've been here, unfortunately. I have heard that Dr. Eric Roberts of All Creatures Animal Hospital (at 40th Street and Greenway) is very good - but it's not really that close to me. There are a number of holistic vets here, but none are near me. As far as the 2nd opinion, I think I'll go to ARECA - they are locally known as the "Mayo Clinic" of veterinary practices (but aren't really intended as ongoing care, as I understand it).

As for a groomer, we stopped altogether about 1.5 years ago bc Wylie's quick has been cut so often by groomers - we just had it. If you look in the Southwest Region forum, I think there might be a few recommendations there for groomers.

No, I wish we were living out there, not for a few more years. We are about 4 hrs away but go out at least twice a months to visit and get away from this very small town! Well I will do some research and be giving my current vet a call this AM to get some more answers. I am still pretty new to YT but maybe one day we will have to set up a play date so our muffins can hang out and play I am not sure if there is ever meet ups for that area?!

There have been some meetups, yes! I went to the last one and it was fun - about 12 or so yorkies were there, it was so funny. They're usually announced in the SW Region forum, do you know where that is? (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=47)

As far as the Pet Insurances goes, please doublecheck. Last time I heard luxating patellas were not covered on any of them. It's considered a genetic problem.

Yes, I don't know of anyone who has had LP covered by their insurance since it's considered genetic. Even if it weren't, your vet has already dx Parker so it would be considered a pre-existing condition. That's why you really should contact your breeder.

For the knee surgery, my vet quoted me $2,000+. I'd just check on it and see if it gives him problems. If it gets worse as he ages, then I'd look into surgery. But definately get a second opinion first if you're considering surgery.

The orthopedic surgeon I went to see, says there is a window of when this surgery can be done, I believe he said it has to be done once the bones stop growing which is 10 - 11 months of age.

From what I have read if left untreated, within 5 years the pup will have other ailments compounded to the lp.

Please look into an orthopedic surgeon, board certified preferably.
