| Female Spay I had my 6 month old female yorkie set up to get her spayed on December 4th, but she went into heat Thanksgiving day. Now my vet says he can't spay her until well after her heat is over at the beginning of January. Does anyone know why she can't be spayed when she's in heat? Thanks!

| Yes, what YorkieRose said. There is more of a risk for blood loss and the procedure is more in depth. There are more blood vessels too tie off. It is safer to wait.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali was spayed during her heat because they thought she had an internal blockage. I had to have a board certified surgeon do it and she the recovery was much harder as was the procedure. She was in the er hospital for 36 hours and it was super expensive. So I would definately wait.

| It's because of the blood loss like everyone has said although some vets will still do it.

| Thank you all! I really appreciate all of your responses. I understand now why she can't be spayed right now. Have a great day everyone!
