Raw Diet - Info Needed

I usually give my boys ground turkey, 98% fat free, for breakfast but I've always cooked it....I was just going to prepare it & then I thought ,"Oh, I don't HAVE to cook it I can do it raw."....

Just to see I put about a tsp. of it down,raw.... I got a couple of sniffs and then they left the plate immediately.... I was disappointed.....

Not to worry. Don't give in! They just don't recognize this as "food", yet. Try offering it from your hand. Leave it down for about 30 minutes, and see if they show interest. If not, take it up (you can even refreeze it) for the next meal. Don't worry! Unless your baby is a teensy 3lb-er, they shouldn't have any ill effects from missing one meal. Be stong, mommy! Doing what's right sometimes takes effort. Do you have any chicken in the house this morning?

OK, B.J. ~ here's another thought. You can sear the meat just for the smell. Don't cook it all the way - not even partial cook. Just put it in the pan, and warm it through until it smells like cooking.

Offer it to her that way - just for today.

OMG OMG OMG they LOVED it!!! I can't believe how they scarfed their food down!!! Cali ate SO MUCH that her belly looked like a tiny golf ball and she had to go lay down right after she finished eating hahahaha I bought ground beef, mixed it with vitamin E and C and some grizzly salmon oil, that's it. Plain and simple.

I'm SOOOOOOO HAPPY I did this!!! I've NEVER in my life seen them so excited to eat dinner before!!! I'm thrilled!!! I'm sooooooooo HAPPY!! YIPPIE!!!

Well I am jealous....Delilah would only eat it from my hand and has only had a total of maybe 2 medallions. And I am watching her like a hawk hoping she will not get sick...she seems to sleep an awful lot! But always has.

It does make one happy dosent it. I felt good about it ! Mine act like they are starved.
We had venision this am and my biggest one evidentaly was starved to death (at 15 pounds and on the heavy side ) or thought someone was going to take it, he preceded to gulp it down throw it up gulp throw it up again and tryed for a 3rd time,I had to step in and hold it for a bit till he started chewing and pulling on it. MY tiniest was so daintily trying not to put her foot on it then start chewing, it took her awhile to be a little agressive with it.
Now if people feed those Medallions frozen are the dogs getting enough chewing done for the teeth? Or do you want to thaw them?
I found a trainer who carries this in Rochester and he said it is about 48 medallions for 8.00 is that bad,and if you feed them how many would you figure per dog per pound a day? How do you decide that? (I think it was 3 or 4 pounds of medallions.)
I still have dog food sitting out and NOONE has touched it.
I do feed all organic dog food also.

I feed the medallions. I thaw them out and tear them into smaller pieces when I feed them. They don't really give a work out for the teeth. You need to feed whole bones for that, and the bone is ground up in the medallions. Lacy still has really nice teeth though from eating the medallions. Lacy is 7.5lbs and eats 4 medallions a day (they are 1oz each). Nature's Variety has 3lb bags of medallions (48 medallions per bag). Would any one have a recipe for making their own medallions ?
How much bone would be needed for 3-4 pounds of meat,and what else would be put in their?

While there's no guarantee that they won't gulp RMBs, yet another benefit from prey model feeding is that the licking of the meat/bone triggers the system to release digestive juices (Here comes fooood!), thus preparing the stomache for food - helping to avoid automatic regurgitation/rejection.

....neither of mine will touch RAW with their paws. It's so hilarious watching them. They both subscribe to the No-RAW-on-MY-paws technique . OK, so sometimes I hold RMBs for Abigail.

When I've given Lacy a chicken neck, I always hold it for her while she chews on it. Otherwise she just kindof looks at it

I remember seeing some premade raw diets that had tripe included in the mix....but can not remember the brand. Does anyone know? I was thinking about mixing different brands of raw for variety.

AFS includes tripe. I use it. Morgan loves it.
